Greetings All,
One of the best things about doing this channel is that I'm gobsmacked at how many people want work done on their Daisy's and want me to do it! It's freakin' great!
This wide frame Daisy Model 98 does have some as yet undiagnosed mechanical issues that will be addressed but really needs a "Fat Bob" roll over comb Tyroleanish stock set. I can't wait to get started but wait I must as I've got 6 guns in front of it at the moment.
Thanks for watching!

I'd like to put a stronger spring in my Eagle 98 built 11/9/61. I see yours was built November 61? It shoots pretty weak. My 99 Target Special shoots with authority, unlike the 98. Any suggestions?

Those are really cool. I sure wish I would have kept my original Daisy that I got back in '75. It was thrown away when it lost so much power it wouldn't shoot more than a few feet. I was still a kid, oh well. It was a small BB gun, lever action, bottle cap muzzle, wood forearm and wood stock. I can't find anything on you tube about what model it was. Do you have any idea maybe?

Trevor, If it's pre-1975 there are a lot of small frame Daisy's that have those characteristics like the Model 75, the Model 80, the non Red Ryder Model 94 and the Model 111 but I can't think of one that was offered with wood stocks. I'll look into it.

Can the daisy rifle identify its self what year it was made ? By looking at any numbers stamped on barrel? Thank you

In theory yes. Daisy had a few different systems in place at different times during it's 120 year history to track it's inventory/manufacturing processes. They used lot numbers, registration numbers/no numbers. This particular gun is a good example of "maybe" registration numbers it's sporting a registration number of "L131271" on it's receiver but it's a Plymouth MI receiver which would indicate it was fabbed up in the Michigan plant prior to Daisy's departure for Rodgers AR in 1958. The register number system was instituted by Daisy in 1952, so a register number on the gun falls in line with theory. The letter L should indicate the month of construction and first number should represent the year of construction so 1 should mean 1951 right? Maybe not. That's where model differences come into play. The Model 98 in question is painted, not blued and according to other sources was produced in two different time frames 1955 to 1961, and briefly from 1975 to 1977. It's far from clear and if you'd like to get as confused as I am check these in-depth discussions forum.daisymuseum.com/how-to-tell-when-my-gun-was-made-reg-lot-no-code_topic8040.html www.cornellpubs.com/free-files/daisy-chronology.pdf www.jgairguns.biz/daisy-register-lot-and-serial-numbers-explained-ezp-55.html I'm calling the shot for this particular gun to have been finished by Daisy in November 1961.
