I masked out the daisies and painted the green washes over the top and the masking fluid protects the white paper. Once the painting is dried, just remove the masking fluid and paint the centres of the daises. You may find this masking tutorial helpful: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pmWXppeCgNOEbNk

I've watched several of your videos with this technique. I really like this one, especially because I like daisies. I don't know if this is totally awkward to ask, but I've been thinking about making some smaller paintings/cards/bookmarks so that I can eventually try a craft show and I'm curious about pricing. I don't see much info and I don't want to put you on the spot. If I were to make 5x7 (approx) sized watercolor paintings or cards, I'm wondering what would be a reasonable price to ask. Of course it depends on whether or not I can paint well. I've done some small paintings and got some sincere feedback that I should try to start a side business.
@KarenRiceArt3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment and question Elizabeth.... So pleased you like this tutorial. I think your idea of painting some cards and smaller paintings is wonderful. As for pricing very tricky... I would go to the places that you are thinking of selling your work and see what sort of pricing people are charging. It has been a while since I have done this so not sure myself. If you are thinking of selling online, you can check to see what others are doing ... Etsy is a great place to start with. When asked by my students this question... when starting out, it is just nice to cover expenses and get some experience. Always charge more for something you love and are proud of... otherwise if you sell to cheaply you will regret it.... I have experience of this!! Good luck! Let me know how you get on 😊

This is a fabulous demo, but I missed hearing you say, "So, shall we get started?" and "Bye for now." Also, I will now always think of daisies when I hear Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata. At first, I thought what a sad choice of music for daisies, but as the painting demonstration progressed, the choice of music seemed absolutely appropriate. At first glance, daisies are white, bright and cheery flowers but as this bokeh tutorial illustrates, it's the deep, moody shadows that make daisies glow with joy.

I love white flowers and this video has given the confidence not try it. Am just wondering whether I could use acrylic white instead of gouache, as I don't have any gouache but a lot of acrylic white. Is there a big difference?
@KarenRiceArtАй бұрын
you could use acrylic for highlights. I wouldn’t use it on the whole flower. I find the difference between and Watercolour is acrylic is opaque. You also also get a bit of a shine on the surface. It is a good alternative to creating highlights at the end of the painting though. Hope this was helpful.
@jeannetteleonard257Ай бұрын
@@KarenRiceArt Thank you for that information, especially about the shine, I hadn't thought of that. Will give a try with the highlights and see how it comes out.
