I ended up purchasing a new rod and reel yesterday 06.06.2022. I hadn't planned on buying a new setup but my mom wanted to go to academy and I ended up going to the fishing section and picking something out finally. The rod I got is a 6 ft Medium rated for 1/8-3/4 oz lures. I used it for about an hour yesterday and to be honest I can feel the difference with using a slightly more expensive set up, the main difference being how smooth the reel feels. I got a Daiwa Regal LT 2000 reel to pair with the rod and some Yozuri 8lb hybrid fluorocarbon/nylon line. I also purchased three 1/4oz tailspins to test out with this rod. My total bill walking out the door was right under $120 dollars. I think I ended up catching about 7or 8 fish total in about an hour and fifteen minutes of fishing which isn't bad considering I was at a pressured pond with limited bank access. I still plan on getting a nicer Ultralight set up as well as getting some catfishing gear in the near future. I really still want to purchase kayak and have saved up enough to do so but am torn between getting the kayak or some new camera lenses that I've had my eye on. I plan on using this rod/reel combo for the majority of my outings coming up so that I can try using some larger lures and see if I can land some larger fish. I may still carry my ultralight with me when I go out but I really don't enjoy monitoring multiple lines although the more lines that are in the water the higher the chances of landing a fish are.
