Definitely different reels. Both are nice but, built for different purpose. Silver Creek for short range, Gekkabijin for long range. I will get the reel out on the water and I can give you a better analysis for perfomance.

GekkaBijin in a standard and with Roro AX24 spool (and with Chamelleon spool). Chammelleon is not very good but it's still usable. Alphas ct with K.T.F and Roro spool. K.T.F. is really nice but with all taxes and custom dutys and expensive shipping it costed almost the price of the reel. Sometimes some cheap chinese reels like tuned Shakespeare Agility.

@@HobieWanKenobi I bet so...I think I'm going to get the new aldebaran bfs hg. I've been watching videos and reviews about it and people have literally been burying this reel under a slew of scrutiny. That not going to deter me. I'm very excited about it, its the first low profile bfs reel with micro module gears. I bet it will preform better than the last aldebaran bfs with the changes that have been made to the spool and braking unit. I also think it's a good looking reel but definitely not as good looking as this reel.

Hello and thank you very much for another useful and interesting video. I love Daiwa and I'm waiting for my left handed prepaid Gekka (out of stock on Digitaka now). I recently got my Shimano Curado BFS XG and I was very pleased with this reel while testing it out in my snowy backyard. It works better than my Daiwa Alphas CT SV with small lures. I hope Gekka will be even better. Can't wait for spring and open water to test them all!

Hey Hobie, I’m still trying to understand how the reels are designed and works so forgive me if this is an ignorant question. I know this reel is tuned for short range precision casting, but is that due solely to the fixed inductor of the spool? If you were to use the Gekkabijin spool, would it be able to cast further?

I have an inkling to procure the Gekkabijin and let it ride on my Yamaga Blanks 82B. Is it advisable to fill the Gekkabijin spool to the top of the "shouldered" spool edge? This is an 8'2" rod that is great with 1/8-3/8 cranks and smaller beetle spin type lures, but obviously I need/want more line capacity for the long casts with say, 10-15 braid. Appreciate your passion for the JDM BFS genre and culture my friend.

@Benjamin Baumann, saltwater ratings are usually just for the bearings. Frame material can be a factor (magnesium frames general freshwater only).

This is a sick looking reel. Great color combination but hard to fit color wise to a rod. I would really appreciate if you show an in depth maintenance video (particularly removing the worm shaft and TW wing). I remove the worm shaft every time I do maintenance, but with the T wing I never did (fear of damaging the T wing). A comparison might be as well very interesting…Greetings from Germany!

I have the Silver Creek AGS 52L-B. It is a little on the stiff side for most of my fishing. VERY sensitive and I most often use it for panfish. I bring it to the streams when I am targeting bigger trout. Seems like the non-AGS versions are a little softer and tend to work better as all around stream rods.

G'day, I'm a bit confused with understanding the line capacity of the reel. Why does it hold the same amount (40m) of 0.20 and 0.06mm PE ?

The line capacities are an estimate. The recommendation of 0.6goh (Japanese line rating) is preferred but, monofilament and FC can be used as well.

I did put the spool from the Gekkabijin in to the Silver Creek reel. It works just fine. You would be able to buy other 28mm spool that fit in the reel and it will operate.

If you are looking for a long cast BFS reel, Gekkabijin AIR TW (using braid). Saltwater safe too. At those weights, you can also consider a shallow Daiwa SV reel such as the Alphas CT SV.

Hello Hobie! i recently picked up the silver creek after watching your videos, i just couldn't pass seeing how good it looks, i just wanted your insight on a few things if you dont mind, Do you think i will be needing the roro AX22 Spool for my silver creek? i bought that reel specifically for stream fishing, and sort of an "upgrade" from my curado bfs (i still love that reel) The lures i will be using are mainly Like the Jackall Chubby Pencil and Jackson T-Pivot, so In the range of 2g-3g ish, im just not sure if im able to get the same distance like how i used to with my curado bfs when using the silver creek since theres the fixed inductor system and so on, it will for sure take some time to get used to it but i just wanted your insight on that, and also, if it isnt too much to ask, you could check out my most recent video on my channel, just skim through the video to kind of get a general idea of how wide the streams im fishing are. The Silver Creek doesn't really need an upgraded spool. The AX22 helps with 1-2gr but, heavier than that it starts to lose its advantages.

@@DammDelta You will just have to see. People could have different experiences. The Silver Creek will do better with distance with lighter lures. Heavier, probably the same. Silver Creek will have more control

What is the advantage of having the inductor being stationary?

Good question! I forgot to mention that. The moving inductor in most Daiwa reels work best when casting a "normal" distance. The slight lag with the inductor moving can make short casting inconsistent, as there isn't enough distance to turn the inductor out/in during the cast. Most short range casting require very light braking, and are not affected by wind as much so, having a light constant brake is deal. My next video will explain more in detail while casting.

@@HobieWanKenobi Because sv brake is launched out due to spool acceleration generated torque between inductor and launching ramp, in every shortest and slowest there is not necessary enough acceleration, and therefore it's unsure in which cast inductor is launched and in which cast it's not launched. (But in every normal cast there is enough acceleration to launch sv inductor.)
