DAK MARK IX RADIOTELEPHONE CB Radio

Here is a video of a beautiful DAK Mark IX Radiotelephone desktop CB Radio. It is mostly transistor, but has two tubes in it, probably for the finals. It does not appear to be modified in any way. I had to replace 4 potentiometers soon after I acquired it. It has great RX audio and TX audio is good.
I sold it on eBay soon after making this video.

No, I'm sorry I don't remember. I sold it on eBay soon after making this video. I just checked my old emails from DigiKey, but they did not mention any part numbers of what I had ordered. I was recently given a Mark IX that a dear friend had bought, and I was totally blown. When ysd that one ofthe toggles were broke off , but was still operational, I was like, wow! The one I have has that as well. It looks like the person who had it before had taken pretty darn good care of it.

I hope that you are having fun with your DAK MARK IX CB Radio. I got this from a local trucking company that had gone out of business. It was their base station. I'm not a CBer so I eventually sold it on eBay. But it was a nice learning experience fixing it up. Paul

The only reason I haven't pursued owning either one of these or the Mark X is because I've looked far and wide for someone willing to work on one. I had a Mark X in my possession for a couple of months that belonged to a close friend that I used and it was a great unit. Needed a go-through by a good technician but like I mentioned, no one wants to deal with them so I sold it on eBay for him. I will say using a UR6QW processor with a dead-head D-104 mic was a really nice enhancement to it's audio.

Yes, CB radio repair shops are getting harder and harder to find. If this DAK Mark IX was a dud, I would not know how to repair it. Fortunately, I was able to find the poteniometers on-line. They kept crapping out, the more I played with the rig.

@@vtradio I've heard the same story from a few guys over the years. Start messing around with the pots and other adjustments on the board and its like a domino effect continually chasing issues. Too bad I don't have the means to gut the case of one in decent shape and install a more modern board in it from a newer radio.

Cindy - I agree. I don't know a whole lot about CBs, but another video stated that it's a Hy-Gain CB board in there. You don't need a lot of room for that, for sure.

DAK is a great example of a huge mostly empty box that doesn't do anything much better than a good mobile Tram or President. I really think that this looks more like a down sized edition of some high end mono block audio amp in the $10K range. But use that format for a CB radio?

Interesting piece of equipment. Are those two tubes I see inside, held by a "horse shoe" shape retainer? Wow..

JP Not sure. It looks like a bracket to stabilize the tubes at the top. I did not need to pull the tubes, so I did not have to move them out of the way. Thanks for writing. 73 Paul AA1SU

@@MusicMinisterJP7 Yes, those are tubes. It's a hybrid rig - part solid state, part vacuum tube. I would think any CB microphone would work. I don't know the pin-out, but it's probably on the web somewhere.

Deon, Thank you for writing. No, I do not know when the DAK Mark IX (not Mark 6) was manufactured. After a quick search on the web, I'd say mid-70's. I found a page that says the Mark X came out in 1978. That model added SSB.
