Is this the biggest CB Radio that was ever made, can’t be far off it.
Anyway stay tuned as we will be delving deeper into this radio over the coming months.

I had the privilege of using the SSB model DAK X a few years ago that was in really nice condition. The only reason I didn't buy it was there wasn't a technician in a 500 mile radius of my location that was willing to work on it if it ever had issues. But dear God did that desk beast have one of the best and quietest recieves I've ever heard! Such a low noise floor and near dead silent when skip wasn't rolling. I'd still love to custom build one with a more modern board but that would be so cost ineffective. Anyway thanks for posting this video, I'll always have a soft place in my soul for these old bench monsters. 73's from the USA.

I will be powering this up hopefully over the next few weeks with a video to follow as i have yet to even try it.The SSB version would have been nice but i love a bit of AM. Touch wood it will work ok as it is relatively clean.

A friend of mine here in the states has four of them as well as a dak X, in his collection, he has a D104 matched to each one. Red Eye used to be a big boy around here, but he is in his late 80's so the vultures are flying around waiting for his stuff. I still talk to him every night he gets on the air.

Great video, if you ever get fed up with it, I have room for it 🙂Personally I'd leave it totally original and use a dropper PSU, I need to find a good one for my collection of old 120 Volt radios too.The red QC decals are Maxon Korea (like found on old Midland radios). Finally it looks like someone has added the headphone socket to the rear and bodged the speaker lead back with those awful crimps folks bodge car stereo installs with..........Cheers Dave 🙃

Thanks Dave,I thought this was a Maxon too, just slightly different to the old AM boards i remember.Yeah it needs a few bits tidying up but definitely worth a few hours on the bench. If i decide in the future to let it go i will let you know.

Get a decent 240 dropper to 110 so you can satisfy yourself it's working. I have a few American base rig's and have left them in standard form and use a dropper and they have been fine. But if you want it running on 240 then I suppose it is your choice. Lovely radio by the way with those big clunky switches.

Yeah i will probably grab another dropper to give it a try,i gave one away over lockdown as i didn’t think i would ever need it.

You will be seeing me powering it up this month. I have obtained a dropper supply and just need to fit a new power cord and fingers crossed. I do know it is basically a 40 channel AM rig covering the FFC or midband. Although these look like a powerhouse they’re quite low powered.

The greatest failures are the solder through points from one side of the board to the other.

It already has one on the front but could have been a secondary for a extension speaker but it is hard to say really.
