That's just how we rolled, man. Ok, not all of us, but my friends and I happily rode dirt on our roadbikes. Some, with pillions, did tours across very long stretches of soft sand. I didn't, but firetrails to rallies were common.

I remember watching news clips of that race and read it the newspaper. It was very exciting adventure raced to follow as it is today
