I actually do like this finale because it humanized Amara so much and it ties so much with the theme of the show which is Family.

Happy holidays everyone and thank you Dakara for the extra christmas upload, what a lovely surprise :) I do agree that the finale was anticlimatic, but I don't see it as negative. There isn't much that can compete with God's sister as a bad guy. That's why people see S12 critically, I think, and some other stuff I don't want to say rn because spoilers. I still appreciate it, some episodes are really cool if you like character driven episodes with the whole team. Looking forward to the next uploads :)

I love this season, It's definitely one of my favorites. So sorry long comment incomming .. They found another way!!!! Dean humanity Winchester saves the world from the cosmic fight ; __ ; they chose life and family . They turned things around here, Idk maybe that's why it felt different to you. But I love it. Dean was going to sacrifice himself, and that didn't happen in the end, he found a different solution, through actually talking and communicating, and that's the big lesson and I love it, Sam accepted Dean's sacrifice like he's never done before, bc they are starting to move away from the codependency, respecting the other's decisions. And that letting go of Dean was rewarded in the end because he didn't die. On Sam's side was that and on Dean's side was value his life and not sacrificing and opening up. Sam being okay without Dean and Dean not making his whole life about just Sam. They are learning from past mistakes and breaking cycles. Amara had some big lessons too she says that revenge doesn't work, revenge is not the answer anymore. She also finally understood that the "bond" with Dean wasn't what she wanted, she didn't want romance, she wanted a brother. She mixed those two. 0. 0 .... But I love how Amara listened and changed, and Dean empathized with her and used that sweet communication to save the world. And amara just wanted to talk to Chuck he just kept ignoring her and wanting to lock her away. Chuck wanted Dean to be the sacrifice. When he himself should have solved the problem. Putting his issues on Dean. Instead of going full sacrifice for the greater good and locking the darkness and repressing and falling into depression (it reminds me of back when Sam tried to close the gates of hell. That was not the choice because he was trying so hard to be pure and getting rid of all evil and thats not how things work, like getting rid of all the monsters, or hiding those monsters from your life and trying to ignore them to live a "normal life" but lying and lying about it) But Amara accepted the world and humanity. And letting go. She understood that they can have a healthy relationship where each of them can love others outside of their relationship, yea sounds familiar. Like how Sam and Dean are finally beggining to understand that too. They don't need to be alone, they need more people!! Only them is not enough anymore. But they can still fix the relationship working together being together there is no need to be apart. Amara learned forgiveness and learned about herself and she wants Dean to do the same so Mary is back. He will have the opportunity to see what was taking away from him when Mary died, when his father put such a huge burden on his shoulders. And Dean is starting to open up, he's admitted that he likes chick flicks! ha! and things that he has buried deep down to appear tough on the surface and bury his feelings and I love that Sam fully supports and accepts who Dean really is ; _ ; And so on Dean's side, we have Cas which we all know the relationship between them is different than between Sam and Cas, Cas is back finally and Dean is finally relieved but Cas didnt really see how much dean worried and how he stops functioning without him. It is so important that he told Cas that he is part of the family! And that what he did was something only he could have done, he is also the hero but not only wanted for what he can do and that they understand. Reassurance that what he did was not wrong. It is so important for Cas to be told that he belongs with them. That he is a brother! after his family in heaven rejected him after being told he has no home. What Dean told him was so thoughtful. But there's still miscommunication because I mean they still have issues after so many years, it's just normal. Just look at how umconfortable that scene is. There are still things unsaid. Or said wrong. So many things. Dean doesn't really open up about how scared he was. I think that terrifies him and it's tragic because Cas needs to hear it too and discuss it. And Dean also fears that Cas may leave as he has done before so he just doesn't say anything. Although he offers to go with Dean to "kill Amara". And even though Dean is saying that Cas is part of the family he still has self doubts and guilt so he may think he's not worth it. They are afraid of rejection. Again it's still a huge thing but baby steps in the right direction. If you rewatch the whole season there's a TON of foreshadowing about Mary comming back, starting from Amara herself, the cosmic female figure, a lot of episodes are focused on women, and mentions of mothers. And of course going to the source of the issues, and well Mary is definitely a source here. As well as looking back to your past. So now we are gonna deal with the past literally. But finally seeing the issues they have buried is great. Love this seasons theme of light and darkness. And duality. I always love that in series. Remember that charlie episode where we have "bad" charlie and "good" charlie. Well I enjoy that this whole season goes about that and how you can't live without any of those sides. You need both. And you need them balanced. Amara is not evil. She just is.. She even was scared of feeding those pigeons. And she learned and accepted. She came to appreciate humanity. And reuinited both parts so we can move on and start being more balance. For amara to be a cosmic being and understanding the value of humanity because of Dean..is huge. Dean is so powerful and I love him and Amara is amazing for changing and letting that change happen in her. Now it's time for the protagonists to do the same :)

When I saw the finale I also though it was underwhelming. Episode 20 was one of the best in the show, the buildup to the Amara fight in episode 22 was awesome, but the actual fight against the darkness and the season finale, are very underwhelming. The goodbyes are emotional, I'll give it that. The cliffhanger I also think it was underwhelming when compared to other seasons, as no new "big bad" was introduced. The fact that Sam was willing to bear the mark on episode 22 and Dean was willing to sacrifice himself to destroy Amara is a conclusion to something that has been building up since Season 8. Dean stopping Sam from closing the gates of hell, Sam doing everything to remove the Mark of Cain from Dean, they're always trying to save each other no matter the consequences. The Season 11 final few chapters shows us that they learned from their mistakes and are willing to not only sacrifice themselves, but to let each other do it for a greater good. I understand you may have been a little bit in denial during the episode, but Dean's sacrifice isn't out of the blue, but rather something that has been building up through the season. You can look at Season 11 as the series "Finale" in the same way you could in Season 5, because its the last Season from the "Carver Era", which means is the last season with Jeremy Carver as a showrunner since he picked up the position at Season 8. That's the reason why seasons 8, 9, 10 and 11 are so closely linked together and why season 11's cliffhanger was so out of nowhere. It is setting up not only for a new season, but for a whole new era, with Andrew Dabb and Robert Singer as showrunners. Even then I think the ending could be better, but I have always thought that Supernatural is lacking in good "boss fights", it has always been more about the drama and the build up and less about the conflict. So, since a new era is about to begin, expect a lot of new concepts to appear and for some things to change. I'm currently at the start of Season 14, and personally, I don't think Season 12 is as good as some of the previous seasons, but its not bad either, its decent. Season 13 was better in my opinion, as the story seemed a lot more focused than season 12. That's the most I can say without giving spoilers. But anyway, loved your reaction as always, there's a bunch of moments in Season 12 that I can't wait to see your reactions. Keep up the good work.

This is actually a sad way to end the year for me...as this is as far as I’ve ever seen in supernatural, haven’t gotten my hand on seasons 12-15 yet on DVD, and isn’t on Netflix where I am...so sadly this means I won’t be able to watch along anymore til I myself have caught up... Well I mean, I COULD...but not in a position to. Dakara, from the bottom of my heart, I want to say thanks for letting us all on this ride with you, catching up on the entire series and now continuing it, has played a major part in my own, and likely many others ability to cope through this total faster cluck of a year. And once I’m all caught up on the show, I’ll come back to watch. ❤️❤️❤️

The plot of this episode is what I was talking about in the comments of the previous reaction. The plot of this episode regarding the plan to kill Amara contradicts what they showed Amara doing earlier when she was feeding on souls. The fact of the matter is that it made sense in this episode while all throughout the earlier parts of the season it made no sense. Light counteracts dark, so it makes sense why sources of light like souls, angels' grace, and Chuck's light would hurt/kill Amara. Yet they showed her so many times sucking down souls which should've been poison for her. Yeah, here they were planning to use a bomb of 1000s or millions of souls, but if light is poison to Amara, it wouldn't matter if it was 1 soul or 1000----either would hurt. This is even more the case when Amara's vessel was a baby and much weaker & more vulnerable. Even the previous episode's events with Amara stealing Chuck's light should've seriously hurt her considering the light of Chuck she took was more powerful than all the souls of Earth since its a source of endless souls & creation. The fact that she was already badly injured when she took that light from him should've probably ended her. They really didn't think things out before they introduced her to decide how to consistently write her and her strengths & weaknesses. She was brought in as a Death replacement but was a shadow of a character (no pun intended) in terms of writing quality, purpose, and depth.

I was not thrilled when they brought her back. When she appeared at the end of this episode I was like "oh no. here we go down the rabbit hole.". I kind of felt like that since her death was the catalyst/foundation of the journey that she should have stayed as she was. Intellectually, I understand the reason they later gave why they had her be what Dean needed most. But I still believe/think it wasn't the best way to go by a long shot.

A good writer never undoes the core wound of their main characters. Mary's death is what kick started the series and its most of why the boys are the way they are. Nothing they would've done with her wouldve been worth it. From here to the end all resurrections don't really work from a writing perspective. Its because this is the beginning of the Dabb era. Still great episodes in all those seasons but the story writing plummets and its part of why the boys quit. Even if they were too polite to outright say it. 13 is when they decided to quit. They revealed it in 14. Jensen alluded too them stopping before the show gets too bad
@rtozier20113 жыл бұрын
Actually a good writer could find a way to undo it and make it work. And I won't comment on whether they did with seasons left to go.
