I've had an on-going problem with my 01 Dodge Dakota for years. This is by far the best video I've come across to remedy the problem. Dodge has a problem with their HVAC system and should offer owners a recall repair. Until that happens, I'm glad that there are videos like this to help owners who may not always have the money to pay outrageous dealer fees for repairs.

Before you buy a new one, try unplugging the connector and plug it back in. I just did that and my completely dead blower motor sprung to life. It works on all settings including the 3rd one which hasn't worked in over 2 years! Definitely try replugging it first.

UPDATE! February 10, 2019: I looked at your video again and saw the part where you first banged on the blower motor a few times. I never have, so, I did, and voila! It started running! It appears that there is a loose connection in the wiring there, which should be easy to fix! THANK YOU for your great video, you saved me a ton of grief! Just goes to show you, check the simple things first, you just might find a quick and easy solution!

Agreed. Wonderful Helpful Video. I may go straight for the jugular and replace my resistor too. The resister replacement is a quick and dirty car lot fix that doesn't solve the real problem. Usually, the blower motor is drawing to many amps and overheating the resistor and the wires.

I had the repair first done at a gas station for about 350. Ever since I have done it myself. I guess a bad design by Chrysler. Same resistor and wiring plug has failed probably 5 or 6 times since. Blower motor always tests okay. Have to be a contortionist to reach and unscrew the resistor but otherwise a simple fix. Dorman sells both resistor and plug together. Don't just replace the resistor if the hot pin is burnt. Replace both resistor and plug at the same time or the resistor will fail within a month. Doesn't appear to be a moisture issue as the car is in Southern California.

Great video. i wish I had found it when I had to do this job the first time several years ago. In the past 6 years I've gone through 4 resistor blocks and 2 fused connectors. Factory connector was melted and and fused. The replacement lasted a couple years and did the same thing. I then used the extra set of wires that comes with the new connector and just connected those in the correct positions to a new resistor block. Used shrink wrap on each little connector so it would not touch the one next to it. The most recent resistor lasted about two months. As you know the fan runs only on high speed when the block goes out. The fan motor obviously works but I'm wondering if there is some way it could be drawing excess current and causing these resistor blocks to overheat. Thanks.
@scottys14238 жыл бұрын
+Scotty S. An update for anyone in the same boat. I removed the fan and sure enough it did not spin freely. The motor shaft bushing probably was overdue for some oil thus creating some drag and drawing excess amps. The trouble is the way the fan is designed you cant reach the shaft to oil the bushing. So head over to Amazon. I was able to get an aftermarket replacement fan for $40 TYC brand), a new resistor block and connector together for $12, and an extra resistor block to keep for a spare for $6 (both Dorman brand). Bolt it all in and splice the new wires in and it works great. So folks, always pull the fan and check that it turns easily when replacing the resistor block. And at these prices, it may be worth replacing all of it preemptively. Cheers!
@RichpinTv8 жыл бұрын
+Scotty S Good tip.....yes spin the motor to check for drag.

No its because Dodge uses cheap parts in order for their partners to make extra money. Their window regulators are trash. I've replaced every window but all break. They use plastic parts inside to hold a tight cable and expect it to actually hold? If they used a metal part inside would avoid it. But Dodge knows this. Same as the switches on the driver door, they tend to go bad cuz they are cheap. Sad cuz I like the concept of the Dakota. I'd rather have a Dodge truck than a Ford or Chevy but Dodge has obvious areas to improve

This is so sad, I grew up whit my dad using American cars and trucks and I was doing the same, I went through the tree big ones and now based in my son experience I'm thinking to switch for a Toyota truck, still I have a dodge Dakota very poor constructed and a 2014 ford Mustang whit transmission, suspension, breaks, fuel, cooling, integrity and sound problems at the point that I'm going to sale it and buy a Toyota 86 for my wife. it is incredible the lack of materials quality and the poor design. Toyota, finally I'm ready to give you a tray.

That fan is just as noisy as mine. I put a new one on and its just as loud. Also I am on the third connector and 6th resistor. The newest connector harnes has larger wires. The plastic between the positive and negative leads is really thin. If the wire heats up it melts. It is not corrosion. It is a meltdown.

@@jimbennett1834 I do know why there is a vaccuum line that sticks out of the firewall behind the motor its really small about width of a coffee stirrer and really easy to miss. What happens is the vacuum line becomes disconected this vacuum line controls the flap that opens and closes on the bottom of the vents the flap gets stuck without vaccuum from the line. Thats why you only have air blowing from defrost. I actually fixed mine with a coffee stirrer and black electrical tape then eventually I bought line and fit it over the little piece sticking out from the center of the dash in the firewall (when you open the hood you look behind the motor for the little vaccuum line sticking out of the body under the hood behind the dash).
