In Maharashtra we call it "वरण-फळं " or "चकोल्या". It is a traditional Maharashtrian recipe. We use tamarind for tanginess.

Chef, you were absolutely correct by saying this as Indiana pasta. In our family many times when we have leftover daal and don't want to make dokhli we use good quality penne pasta as a replacement and it tasted awesome 👍. Thanks for sharing such a wonderful and comforting recipe.

I'm a Gujarati but we make it a bit different. No garam masala like laung dal chini etc. Also no tomatoes instead for khattapan we use only imli ka pulp. Sweetness ke liye we too add gud. We also add grated fresh/dry coconut, sesame seeds along with steamed peanuts which makes it more wholesome. And we use only ginger green chilli paste for masala. Waise aapki koshish bohot achhi thi. Ek baar hamari style se bhi banakar dekhyega. You will love it. Thanks 😊🙏🏻

Sir , In our Maharashtra women's gets boar about their daily cooking but at that time easy option is dal dhokli which we called in marathi chakulya or varanfal with sweet name but it's very tasty and we almost like and prefer for daily dishes 👌 👍 😋

Wife makes it every Friday evening, serves with Desi-ghee, rice/Rajasthani bati. It is family's favorite dish besides Dal-bati Churma. Though I'hv been eating it for past 50yrs, still get excited seeing it. 👍from Maharashtra.

Thank you for bringing such wholesome authentic dishes on the channel. In Gujarati household we usually garnish it with thin sev and chopped onions. It kind of completes the texture profiles all in one dish.

My Mother is preparing same Dal dhokli but she also add roasted dry coconut and jeera after crushing them roughly. It's taste yummy.

Love this young chef, uses proper Pressure cooker proper Steel utensils , kitchen looks organized & good . . At home & in many Desi homes they cook wonderful food but use cooking ware so fuc.. old mishmash, . Plates not matching , never lay table . Indian cooking is the best cuisines. It deserves nice presentation.

Dal dhokli is similar concept to dal dubki, dal ki dulhan, dal tikki prepared in uttar pradesh and bihar regions.. all these are really easy to make tasty food

Yes in Maharashtra we call it as chikkoli Toordal, tamarind we use And sometimes we use boiled mutton in chikkoli....... very good taste

This is sunday special dish at my home. Seriously like every sunday since my childhood till now. Never knew chefs even knew the name of it because only gujjus make it. Another thing to mention is desai vada which is very rare dish and only desai community makes it. If you could research on it.😊

Very authentic!! I'm gujarati n it is perfect!!! 2tips....add ghee/ oil whn u put dhokli in dal fr cooking. Put star anise in d tadka...it vl make ur dal mare flavour full n tasty too!!

I use half moong dal ,half toor dal little a spoon of channa dal instead of ground nut...in ghee tadukka I add crushed coriander seed and garlic sliced ...try this use lime juice instead tamarind...tastes good 👍

THANKS ALOT. I tried it and it was yummy. We, biharis called it Dal Chibhi or Dal Chibha. As it is one of the variant kinds of the "Dal and Roti". So, when I had it first time during my childhood time I sang it "Dal Roti khawo aur prabhu ke gun gawo".

People from Bihar also make it wirh little variation .We have been eating this from childhood and call this dalpeethi.We eat this with Aloo ka chokha, ghee and Aam ka achar.
