Probably the best preparation I ever did for a piano piece (it was a Mozart sonata in that case) was pretty much this: visualizing its music in my head while spontaneously creating and enacting a choreography that embodied it's energy in terms of phrasing and rhythmical structure. At my exam, my fingers moved with an energy and virtuosity they had never experienced, with a ''surprising regularity in the 16th notes'' (was the comment of my judges at my exam) and in just the right spirit for the piece. Definitely one of my best memories as a musician. This method which I just discovered seems to do just that. If you can't dance the music you play at least somehow, you probably don't really feel it and won't be able to convey its message.

Not counting but feeling was a revelation ?!! I have been underestimating my genius ... But also this is a great way to teach. One of my friends could play bass but he had real difficulty covering songs in rhythm and singing along. I didn't know how to teach him that... but this may help :)

Eurythmics is a game changer for me. However can you teach this without piano ?

You can most likely apply the concepts to whichever instrument you're most comfortable. Piano is just very versatile for improvisation.

That's what makes Dalcroze teachers so amazing, they improvise a lot, creating custom pieces and exercises for students =)

@@yat-yeechong9622 yeah and unfortunately most piano music is over-composed so it is so hard to find something which sounds like this improvisation but is professionally recorded. Piano music usually becomes heavy on the ear instead of just putting out the core of the music which is a joy to feel. The ones who record stuff like this are usually not able to play anything complex either so it sounds not as good. It has to be by someone who can play the complex pieces but chooses simplicity to serve the music. But not like Arvo Part who goes into a totally different zone yet again and throws out the beat.
