I remember 03 when Mikey won and 04 when Jr. won. I was barely 10 years old and my dad, who was a die-hard Sr. fan, watched every single race, or anything nascar related really. I remember how upset he was when Sr. died and seeing him cry for the first time in my life. When Mikey crossed that finish line in 03, my dad teared up, but when Jr. got it in 04, I thought I was ready to see my dad jump over the moon. Racing means so much more to the fans than just fast cars. My dad passed away in 2008 in an ATV crash doing what he loved just like Sr. did and I can only hope that he finally got to shake hands with the intimidator. We laid him to rest with a couple of his favorite Dale Earnhardt die-cast models just so we knew he'd still get his share of Nascar even after he was gone. Great episode, guys.

I saw Dale sometime around 76 or 77 in practice at Charlotte. He had no team and ran a few laps and came in got out and opened the hood and worked on I think the carb. The older man I went with told me who he was and told me about his dad having been a great driver. I never forgot it. When he got in cup racing in 79 I started pulling for him. I was 20 years old working construction out of state. As soon as his shirts came out I had one. I still have a large drawer of those shirts. I don't wear them anymore. I wanted to save them. I may be buried in one. But I know that hurt and pain as a fan that was there from the start. I remember what it felt like to be at the track and one of a few wearing his shirt. It was amazing what he did for NASCAR.

I love this ❤️My husband and I live in Florida and we’re at this race in 2001 actually both the 500 and the 400, the 500 was devastating, our seats were on the fourth turn 😞 and the 400 just magical❤️

This is so captivating 😎 The Intimidator We all miss him so very much! 🙏🏽 Peaceful Journey Dale 😎🤟🏽🤙🏽 February 18, 2001 is a day I will never forget for so many reasons. It was also the start of Missy and my Iron Dog historic run. I remember exactly what I was doing when I found out...fueling up at the Nickolai checkpoint. Stunned stupid! My race partner had to slap my helmet ⛑ and knock me back onto reality. It is one of those moments in my life...I will never ever forget 🙏🏽😎 Peaceful Journey Champ! 🙏🏽

Thank you both for sharing your personal experiences and feelings. I didn't have the opportunity to meet Sr. and haven't met either Jr. or Mikey. As a fan I still get emotional about Feb 18, 2001 & the July '01 race. The celebration '01 July certainly helped. I look forward to Mikey's Documentary! Please bring on Shrader and maybe Brooks & Dunn!

I watched the documentary lastnight it’s so amazing. I’ve never felt such sympathy for someone the highest of highs to lowest of lows 30 seconds apart. Keep healing Mike❤

Dale - You are such a class act and I absolutely love your show! I'm sure there are tons of them I've not seen yet, but I will catch-up as time goes by! Thanks much for all you've done for this sport and continue to do for this sport!

That gets me every time, Sr was pushing his friend and his son to the win. He was fighting off everyone else, hell or high water, he had their back. Not for himself but for them. Never been a Sr fan, but that moment, I was and am a Sr fan.

Jesus I am hooked on these things . Having spent many laps in a race car myself this is the most relatable series I have ever watched. Its bad in a way because it also gets that itch going. Dales win completed the circle and Michael I am 100% sure was propelled that day ,by events that had taken place in the not so distant past. Hell , the entire field was probably watching it unfold and thinking the same thing while at the same time wanting to win themselves... Waltrip putting punctuation on that event says a hell of alot....No living breathing feeling human being could not be moved by that. Hell of a Series men..... Jr you might just be doing more for the sport after you quit then any driver ever could strapped in a race car....

Thank you for filling in the gaps and Letting us in on your feelings and thoughts. I finally have healed from that day. Only because my Father and I were enemies when in came to the races. Being from upstate New York ....and Geoff Bodine country..... his driver was Geoff and mine Dale ..... I lost my dad years later and can’t imagine your pain at that moment. But we shared that tragic moment together. And he finally admitted how great your Father was.......... now I have the full story.......

That day for Mikey has always left me perplexed. Like I can't imagine how someone goes through such highs & the lowest of lows in such quick succession. I think of it from time to time. How wild & unpredictable life can be so quickly. Hats off to him & his sunny disposition he seems to bring out everyday since. Thanks for videos.

That has gotta be one of the greatest emotional shifts I have ever seen. You win the Daytona 500 for your first ever Cup win, and you lose your friend, mentor and boss at the same time.

Michael said it best a few years ago. After winning the Daytona 500 that day and when you look at the 🏆, instead of thinking about the win, you think about the loss (of Dale). That had to leave a sour taste in your mouth and a knot in your stomach. I don't know if I could have that trophy in view bc of the loss, but then again you can't put it away bc one of your best friends gave his life (not intentionally but still) for you to win that trophy. It has to be the hardest tug of war in your soul.

I watched that Daytona 500. When the TV camera showed Darryl Waltrip looking out toward turn 3 and the concern on this face I knew right then Dale Sr was gone. At that moment, I called my father on the phone, he was watching the race in another state, he answered with "Dale is gone"...... The sport changed at that moment in many ways.
