I hear what Jr. is saying, but it’s possible for someone like Jim France to a “good guy” in personal life but still have unfair business practices. Also, NASCAR was not just Bill Sr.’s “dream.” I don’t really blame his kids for trying to protect what they have been told is theirs, but stock car racing should belong to drivers, teams, and the fans, not a single billionaire family.

I think I would've followed Jr a lot more if my life hadn't been changing so much and drifting away from watching the sport as he was coming up. I remember him playing racing games with fans and thought that was freaking cool af, and when PC racing wasn't too great lol mid 90s I think? by early 00s Ii was done ... out being a young fool, watching ITRs on SPEED on road courses. He was part of the last of the golden era of the sport ... pre-chase, pre-CoT, pre-broken up races, etc. The races not being non stop 500 miles is one of those things I hear about that just keeps me away. I want the race drama of tires, fuel, endurance ... a cautionless long race. Instead of restrictor plates, they could've reduced displacement over the years so the cars could always go balls to the walls; no restrictor plates and what follows is increased efficiency through smaller displacements or fewer cylinders. I still love listening to Jr and his guests talk about things. Thankful for finding this podcast and grateful it is being made.

also the way supercars does chicane track limits is they simply put another timing beam down behind the kerb, and if they're over it'll pick up the transmitter in the car, ping off a lap time to to race control, they have proof you've done it and they know the car that did it, 3 strikes and you're out

Jr. you bring up the key overall issue here!! “THATS MY FAMILY!” Yes it’s one thing when your critical of your family, then when you have those outside sources doing it, you of COURSE ATE GOING TO STAND UP FOR THEM!! One thing is more than honest and truthful here!!! The biggest backstabbing or hurtful moments usually happen by FAMILY! I’m n this case here is what I would hope for being a fan since I was merely 5 years old, so 35 years of loving this sport and feeling that kind of feeling myself of “HEY THATS MY PEOPLE BACK OFF!” This is what you want at bare minimum if nascar may be in the wrong and that’s simply, “Hey NASCAR you have been kind of or operating in a MONOPOLY WAY, but it’s clear that it wasn’t INTENTIONAL by the way of the record books show and discovery with testimony proved that was not the intent! You get things settled correctly and quickly and then have a full understanding of what OPERATING IN A MONOPOLY FASHION! However if it is proven that NASCAR HAS OPERATED AS A MONOPOLY INTENTIONALLY FROM DAY ONE OR AT SOME POINT, then that’s where you have to discipline your FAMILY for doing YOU WRONG!! Get it settled quickly THEY MUST LEARN FROM THERE MISTAKES heal as you move on, as we always do!! Also in either case even if NASCAR is completely clear, LETS NOT LOOSE ANY TEAMS WHICH MEANS PEOPLE LOOSE THERE JOBS WHICH IS A SCARY FEELING I HAVE SEEING WHAT THE OLIGARCHS ATE UP TO AND WANT! (Just being real) Let’s also not loose one of the biggest SUPERSTAR ATHLETE OWNERS IN MICHEAL F*****G JORDAN!! Like seriously 👊 In my opinion even in the best case scenario with NASCAR winning this outright, loosing MICHEAL JORDAN WOULD BE A BLACK EYE THE SPORT WOULD PROBABLY NEVER RECOVER FROM in a lot of eyes more so probably the appeal of wanting to be an owner of any sort in this sport I think could really financially put a damper that could possibly if not kill the sport, ruin its image! Don’t commit the proverbial business suicide by ruining its image! I understand that that could possibly happen looking at the scenario’s that could play out, but even in those scenario’s, you can still save the image by doing the right thing and moving on quickly and Settling things the way you should! That’s how close tight net Families solve things!

I’ve been a road racing crew chief for 10 years. Back in 2019 I crew chiefed a race at the Roval. I was shocked at the poor quality of the corner workers. Throughout our 12 hour race there were half a dozen incidents of car to car contact in turn 1 that were the direct fault of the corner worker. There were also dozens of other “no flag” incidents around the track that I heard about over the radio. It is still the worst example of flagging and race control I’ve ever seen. They were operating the road coarse as if it were an oval. Apparently they haven’t learned much since then.

I do prefer this newest configuration for the Roval to the previous one. It was possibly this car's best road course race. I don't know if they brought a softer tire or anything, but it seemed like tires actually mattered more than usual and the cars were able to stay much closer to each other pretty much throughout the entire course. It made me wonder too if they had different setups for this track as opposed to other road courses, lke maybe they had the back end up more something? Or maybe the entire car was up due to the bumps and the transitions onto the oval and back to the infield? Whatever it was, it was a really good race, even with Larson basically dominating, which by the way, we need to see some dominating performances over the course of the season. I feel like that's something that is underappreciated, but when you don't see it for a long time, you realize how important it is to the sport. It's supposed to happen. Teams and drivers hitting the setup and being on point makes for a special performance. It might seem "boring," but it makes it memorable and when it's someone like Larson, it only adds to how he's viewed as a driver.
@nomadman52883 ай бұрын
Those people you're talking about are people that work for NASCAR, which is a seperate thing than those who have been running it and doing shady sh*t. Sorry Dale Jr you've lost your mind. Track limits are there for a reason. At present Nascar has three driving disciplines, ovals, street circuits and road courses. Ovals are defined by outside wall and and the line on the inside of the track. Street circuits are defined by walls on both sides of the track. If you make a mistake it's going to damage your car and ruin your day. Road courses on the other hand are designed with corners of varying radius, braking zones and accelerating zones that are there to test the skills of the drivers. The track is defined by a line on the inside of the track and one on the outside. These racing circuits were designed for the cars to race primarily between these lines. In most other racing series the cars are permitted to have two wheels outside the line but the other two must remain within the boundaries of the track. If a driver transgresses the rule he is given a warning on the first and second occurrence and is only then penalised on the third transgression. On Nascar road courses you are penalised on the first occurrence. Now my rant. Stop trying to turn road courses into ovals and race them the way they were designed. Use COTA as an example. Everyone tries to run a straight line through the esses. The esses are meant as a skill test for the the driver to hit the apex of the turn as efficiently as possible to set you up for the next apex. The driver that does it the best maintains the highest speed and can drop a less skilled driver. The hairpin at the back end of the track is a joke. It is meant as a passing opportunity. The Nascar drivers enter that corner two car widths outside the track limits and exit the corner three or four car widths outside the track limits. Stop trying to straighten every corner. The same thing takes place at Watkins Glen on two of the corners, where the cars are four or five car widths outside the track limits. STOP TRYING TO TURN ROAD COURSES INTO OVALS!! Just once it would be nice to see Nascar run the course as designed, and I guarantee you that the fans would see a fantastic race without all the carnage. PLEASE NASCAR JUST ONCE! End rant. .

57:59 that's the thing...Jim France has long been a sports car guy way back to Grand AM if not further back than that, this Gen 7 car, I don't know how much influence Jim France had on it but if NASCAR wanted everyone to have the same car they could very easily kept the old Gen 6 cars, added features from that X3 prototype RCR built and tested, and just had Dallara and the parts suppliers build that kinda car instead of a sports car, and it probably would've been cheaper to do that too.

The problem with the yellow flag for Kligerman is that NASCAR is ALWAYS going to want an overtime finish if there is ANY WAY POSSIBLE to make it happen.
