It shouldn't be charters if 60 cars show up they should take the 40 fastest qualifiers and if you don't make oh well try harder next weekend

That’s why they can’t get 60 cars to show up any more, Not even for the Daytona 500 they can barely get 40 to show up for it. A smart person wouldn’t build a car and a backup car ti show up at Daytona and only have 4 slots to get in the race. That would be foolish. The first race they had at the Brickyard over 70 teams showed up to qualify for 43 spots

@tritontransport4 ай бұрын
That was when they could actually get more than 43 to show up and qualify and then they couldn’t so they hd “start and park” teams show up and would running 4 or 5 laps and park the car. They’d run the same set of tires for half a dozen races. Actually before the 43 it was 42. They added the 43 spot for the “past champions provisional” essentially so Richard petty could into the race because otherwise he wasn’t fast enough anymore. Then Darrell waltrip used it every week for several years for the same reason. And prior to the 42 and then 43 it was based on the size of the track. Pit stalls are a lot different at the short tracks than they used to be. Tracks like Bristol and Martinsville only had space for 32 or 36. Some tracks the starting field was 38. Talladega was 44

If you show up with top 20 speed there’s no need to invest on a charter. I’m pretty sure that if Dale brings a cup team to the track it’ll be partnered with Hendrick and Chevrolet so outside of crashing before the car completes a qualifying lap odds are that car will make every race with ease. Yeah that tv money would help but his name on the team would come close to making up for that.

I totally understand the sentiment of everyone hating the charter system but it’s literally the only realistic way to keep the sport around as a nationally televised and respected sport. With that being said NASCAR could/should revamp the charter system to allow for more non-charter teams to qualify and compete. The problem is, with the next gen car it’s nearly impossible for non charter teams to be able to afford to build their own car let alone two. The car hasn’t been out long enough for there to be a surplus of parts that people could get on the “cheap”. With all things change are inevitable it’s just all about balance.

@@SStudiopro We do know if we look at the stats. People just run on feelings. YEP NASCAR is a whole lot different than it was in 2001, there is a reason for that. It is because the racing sucked. Fans drive the sport, at Texas Motor Speedway they removed all the back straightaway seats. No demand. When I catch glimpse of a race, it is a tell tale when they do not focus on the stands. I live 20 minutes from the track, I can not even tell when there is a race there anymore. No excess traffic. And no, I quit watching/following the NASCAR Series 10 years ago. Sponsors are leaving as fans have left.

This is a very dumb take it literally makes millions every year and is on the rise
@amorris19704 ай бұрын
@@derekferrin5785 First off it is not on the rise. SHR is selling them for less than half of what they paid for them. Secondly, NASCAR can not get 40 cars to any given race. Its been this way for the last few years. New teams can make the race, without having a charter. So, really what is the use for charters? All the cars that show up to a race, will make the race. As far as making millions. The charters do not make millions, after they shell out 40-50 million for a charter. So, the returns dont match the payouts.
@derekferrin57854 ай бұрын
That because Tony wants out not because nascar is failing and the reason why there isn’t more cars is because of charters. Not because it’s failing
@amorris19704 ай бұрын
@@derekferrin5785 I totally disargee. NASCAR for the last 5 years so, has not gotten a full field of cars. That being the case charter values are dropping fast. Because charters are not needed to make the race. Just like JR. said, I am not paying for something I can not make a profit on. The Owners needed charters when NASCAR was in its prime. When 43-46 cars showed up for a race. Those days are long gone. And will never come back. So, one could say that the car owners are part of NASCAR down fall. With the charter system. Any new team will not get much sponsorship because the charter system has priced them out. So, again the charter system is apart of NASCARs decline.

In 2023 most races had 36 cars, or all of the charter teams. A few had 37, a couple had 39, and the first race of the year at Daytona had 40. I get the reason for the charter system, its just that it was instituted about 15 years too late. They only have a full field of 40 a couple of times a year. The small independent teams that only ran a few races a year don't exist anymore, and when there’s more than 36 cars it's usually an existing team running an unchartered car for a driver to get experience at the Cup level. I don't think they even have a past champions provisional anymore. Other than Jimmy Johnson, who was the last past champion to even run a race? If they ended the charter system, I doubt very seriously it would affect the car counts.
