Dalek Sec, at the end, wasn't wrong. What had being the supposedly "perfect" and emotionless beings gotten his race? Death, destruction, fear, and hatred from others. I honestly keep hoping we'll see Sec again somewhere along the lines.

The Daleks think that only the mind matters. They remove the heart and keep the mind, only. That's why Sec said that a pure Dalek is intelligent but emotionless. The presence of a heart gives a person reason to live and thrive. Sec understood that. He was intelligent enough to understand that the presence of a heart matters. It's marvellous, really. It's like imagining the 4th dimension while you exist in only 3 dimensions.

@@Stellarionas What Davros realized was that if a species changes, it dies. Sure, you have a species with the same name, but no more the same than a chicken is a t-rex. The heart embraces change, welcomes it, and with it, welcomes its own destruction. The Daleks lost, but they could well have won, and then they would have lasted forever. That was what Davros wanted.

I think what made them mutiny was the fact that the path Dalek Sec was taking them would not make them the dominant species anymore. Davros said in his first episode that he programmed the daleks to survive and defined this parameter to be achievable only by being the Supreme beings. So when Dalek Sec said that not being the Supreme beings anymore was good, that went against their survival parameters.

@@dannygcreates2035funny because it left them with only one, who obviously then went back into the time war to rescue Davros, who then created a new Dalek empire. Caan’s trip through time though, made him see Sec’s point of view about the Daleks but instead of wanting to change and try to improve their future, he just wanted them gone altogether. It was a pretty convoluted plan, but one which very nearly worked.

0:21 this point made me love this ep. the change in the Dalek sec from what is basically a killing machine with no thought above killing to a human, with regret and compassion. Truly this was the last chance for Daleks to not just survive but thrive.

Hybrid-Sec was right when he said that they need to return to the flesh. Originally the Daleks were only in the casing to survie the war against the Thals back on Skaro. And just like Traitor-Dalek said, the Dalek race has deviated and perverted from that. Coling Baker's Doctor said in Jubilee along the lines of; So, what if the Daleks conquer the universe, what then? They would be no one else to rule or exterminate.

The casings were designed for their future beyond just the Kaled-thal war. The egghead elite of scaro believed that the Kaled would all eventually mutate into the Dalek mutant. As a result they helped design the travel machine based on Davros’ chair. Little did they know that Davros wanted this travel machine to be more than just wheelchairs for the mutants. In summary: they haven’t corrupted anything. This was their creator’s intent.

Watching this clip alone has completely reinvented my perspective on this story. It's an amazing analysis into the purpose and psychology of the Dalek race and how such a new perspective of both Dalek and Human mind can see just how incorrect it is.

This is why sometimes I wish Sec had all of the Cult members merge with humans after his own merging worked, so that all of their mentalities would change and the rest of the Cult wouldn’t betray and kill him.

That said, if they had, the Daleks would never have been able to recover as a species. Caan would have never rescued Davros, who in turn, would never have created the new Dalek empire, which means the three ironside survivors would never have existed to find the progenitor device. The Cult of Skaro HAD to fail here, or the dominoes may not have fallen in the right direction to restore Dalek supremacy. By failing here, the Cult actually saved their species

Sec was exactly that, a Dalek that could truly *imagine.* To the point that he conceded that the Doctor was a genius and that he was their best bet in truly evolving. I don’t think Davros would concede that the Doctor is an asset, but he would most certainly be interested in Sec’s imagination.

He didn't turn good at all, Dalek Sec got a bit more flexible and realised that the quest for supremacy had reduced them to four specimens so other ways were needed.

Sec began to understand that destruction, death, hatred, and all the other cruel aspects of Dalek nature were wrong; Sec believed that the Daleks needed to shed their old ways to move forwards and evolve. To become better meant to regain their kindness.

“Dalek’s are weakened by their lack of compassion”, is a nonsensical concept when it’s failed to be proven one up until now. The only things that have foiled their plans for conquest in new who were literal deus ex machinas. They were winning the time war They were winning in parting of the ways They were winning in DooMsday Even in oldwho I haven’t seen their attitude be the source of the failure The point of the Daleks is that they’re not weak and they’re incredibly dangerous The 4th doctor says as much: the good they do is the alliances they inadvertently create through their attempts at galactic conquest They were so successful at conquest that they challenged the most powerful beings in the known universe.

I was thinking the same thing. The only good argument I can conceive of for otherwise is the fact that their enemies are stronger and so the only path to dalek salvation lies in cooperating and being empathetic. This being the case not because of anything inherent to their caustic nature or the nature of being empathetic, or even the universe, but the circumstances they find themselves in. Which is philisophically and narratively boring just like the deus ex machines. I'm sure you'd agree lol.

The Doctor was explaining the philosophy that made the Daleks. Davros thought that empathy and emotions made creatures weaker. That’s what the Doctor says “that’s what your creator thought all those years ago”. Sec is saying that Davros’ philosophy of compassion and emotions being wrong and weak is a wrong and destructive philosophy that has brought the Daleks closer to extinction than ever before. That’s what makes him want to change that aspect of Dalek kind.
