It’s really easy if you buy cheap timing pin set and pull the pump out and you can check the timing at the same time

Love this man. I have a 300tdi 130 truck and just added an Alu Cab on it, and boy is she struggling with all the added weight. Looking at ways to increase power so I’m thinking of this and some other things like performance intercooler. Great vid and thanks! Cheers from Texas USA!

Thanks for the comment. Those Alu Cabs are sweet! I've since found out a few things on tuning the stock 300tdi without having to buy extra parts. You can just rotate your original boost pin so the aggressive angle faces forward and you can change the preload on the star wheel which sits below the boost pin spring. There are some other tricks I've found - maybe a whole new video. Anyway, thanks for watching and I hope you get it sorted and enjoy your 130 out in the wilds somewhere!

Buy yourself a front mount intercooler, vnt turbo, twin inlt manifold and upgraded clutch and ring. That will sort you out

Land Rover technician told me do not even turn the those fuel pin from original factory position. It will shorten the life of engine. I have not covered workshop is something goes wrong so I decided not to do any upgrade on engine. But Yep it went really quick when I simply turn the pin to the max position and black smoke when every time taking off. Loved it but now slow truck again. But do u notice that 300 tdi engine goes crap when you start driving but end of the day of driving, it really goes smooth!?

increasing fueling increases exhaust gas temps i reckon as long as you stay within the range of acceptable temps it'll be fine.

You're correct, my 300tdi takes ages to warm up and run smoothly. Since making this video I spoke with a specialist mechanic and from that convo I reckon I need to make another video detailing what he said.

Sorry, Stock ain't all it's cracked up to be, ie: plastic, plastic and more plastic on my 1996 Defender 90

Let’s say that is the wrong way to re power your defender. You have to look at fuel ratio (air + fuel). If you just look at fuel side you are running the risk overheating on an engine that is particularly sensitive to that.. if you really want to get more power from your 300tdi, the best route is going to high performance intercooler, variable geometry turbo and then tuning your injection pump. But before that, if you haven’t done yet, you must do an injection pump overhaul (overdue job at this point) and fuel injectors replacement. All you are doing now is killing your engine.

Really good advice - thank you mate. I've always had my suspicions with these diy upgrades - particularly since they're marketed towards numptys like me :)

Personally I think these changes bullshit.-STRONZATE..if you adjustment engineTappet give an extra gear without touching anything of the power supply ( the defender tdi 300 was voluntarily depowered by the Land Rover because the transter gearbox lt230 was 1:40 and not 1:20)....

Interesting! I'd love to read up more about this - are there any forums or articles you could suggest? Thanks
