Did the same on my 300tdi defender, absolutely transformed it, I have stock turbo and intercooler but disco transfer box, it's stronger right through but I love the power at around 40mph in fourth, just boot it, turbo spools up and your off! My egt is lower than yours but I adjusted the star wheel by half a turn to cut smoke slightly, it will still leave nice smoke if the throttle is mashed in lower gears. Best bang per buck I've ever seen on any engine I've ever owned!!

I planned to skip through your 'long, boring' drive, but found it really fascinating.

Thanks Keith, glad you got some use out of it. I knew it would be quite boring, but then thought if I was in the market to buy them then I would hope to actually be able to see what was going on, rather than just read positive comments on facebook.

It was not really that accurate. Better of to get the madman system. We scrapped the Fourby stuff as it was reading way too high rendering it useless.

Hi - Defender 300tdi owners here - how does it handle on the motorway? It looks like it was pretty easy to get the temp to 700 which worries me a little
@whitacrebespoke3 жыл бұрын
Did you ever get an answer? Just rebuilt my defender and it’s not staying with out upgrades as it’s so slow. My 02plate TD4 freelander pulls the same trailer better with same amount of tools in it. I don’t want to find I’m cooking head though if I modify it as I have to tow on motorway fair bit

I may be wrong here but if the spacer ring is put in and then washers are palced under the springs surely you are just raising the whole spring to what it was before more o less? Why not leave the washers out and just have a thinner ring?
@josephclarke20943 жыл бұрын
Thank you for posting this video! It is most helpful, now it has been some time since you did all of the upgrades has there been any issues caused by the modifications?

The vehicle was taken off the road in August 2019 because we are turning it into the world's first Discovery 130. You can see some videos of the progress o our channel and lots of info on our facebook page/group. We had no problems at all to date though and would do it all again.

Just curious about your EGTs, they seem to be very high, I've got a 110 heavily loaded with pin, ring and the controller and I actually have a hard time to get it to even 600, I run the fourby guage as well.
@Pepperdew964 жыл бұрын
This 300 is SERIOUSLY over-tuned. Watch the factory water temp gauge. It moves above half way! Mine only does that when it is about to commit holy suzuki, and I know about it long before because the AC fans start screaming at 100C (at which point the gauge is still NOT quite half way). Maybe he is getting away with it due to the cold climate, but here in South Africa that would have been at LEAST one head gasket during the course of this video. Why would you risk your engine for an extra 20km/h? A mildly tuned 300 is more than capable of doing everything a land rover was designed to do. 300tdi land rovers are designed to do many things. Drag racing is not one of these things.
@DonegalOverlanding4 жыл бұрын
@@Pepperdew96 this is exactly where the water temp gauge went to before the tune, and its exactly where it is meant to be. On our trip to the Pyrenees, it was about 34c in the shade and we were driving up and down mountains and it never moved once, always was in the exact same place. This tune was after that and the temp is identical.

The fuelling is a bit high, it couldve done with being turned down a little. It had not been adjusted in this video.

Wow, that EGT seems a bit high! I am running a standard Defender 300TDi with 285/75/16R tires. At constant 63 mph on the flat Dutch highways, my EGT reaches about 400C, at 75 mph it shows about 500C. Now i bought a cheap Chinese EGT so not to sure about its accuracy. I also noticed that now the cooler autumn outside temperatures have quite in impact on the EGT. Any thoughts on this!? At 62mph my fuel consumption is about 25mpg, at 75mph I get 20mpg. When driving 75mph, some dark haze starts coming out of the exhaust, which I don't like. How do any of the mods (intercooler, boost pin/ring) impact the exhaust fumes at higher speed?
@ouisi76 жыл бұрын
That sounds accurate. Normal range is between 250 and 680 depending on load. Max is 720c. And by max, I mean you are doing permanent damage to the head at that temp. Most people that have upgraded their intercooler say it was a waste of money. Very little benefit overall. The boost pin will cause higher EGT. The ring is just to prevent excessive smoke.

Where are you getting the power from for the gauge?
@DonegalOverlanding Жыл бұрын
We took it from a random switched live on the fuse board that's located near to the drivers door.

Did the egt gauge give you any issues with the initial wiring? I'm fitting one exactly the same from fourby but keep getting a p100 showing on the gauge..any ideas?

Had no problems at all. Was straight forward. I think I remember someone speaking to Neil Ensor about a code when he installed it. Check out the Land Rover TDi Performance group on facebook, the answer will hopefully be in there. Neil is on holiday himself right now, but there are plenty who could guide you.

What egt are you getting on sustained acceleration or overtaking AND fixed high speed 70mph, long gradients etc. on A roads & motorways please? Really great idea to let the flush of the new ebb away.
@DonegalOverlanding6 жыл бұрын
In general driving about 60mph on flat its around 450-500c. Uphill it soon climbs if I try to maintain the same speed. If I was on the flat at 70mph Id be around 520c. Im never on motorways, there are none anywhere near me. Though I will be on one tomorrow so if i remember I will check and post again.
@DonegalOverlanding6 жыл бұрын
I was on the motorway today. So at 70mph which is a lot given the aerodynamic disaster that is my vehicle these days, it was about 620-680 depending on tiny inclines in the road. I normally sit at 60mph most of the time as its easier.

Can you do just the boost pin and ring or do you need the exhaust gauge as well?
@DonegalOverlanding6 жыл бұрын
You do not need the gauge. Probably the majority of people do not have the gauge. However I seriously recommend it because it is VERY VERY easy to get to 700c when you are climbing up even a shallow hill and you have your foot down. Im sure I would have destroyed the engine already were it not for the gauge as Id never have believed how easy it is to overheat it.
@motoninja27476 жыл бұрын

No idea as we never had it tested. Right now its going to be even better as we have completely changed the vehicle and built it as a Discovery 130. It's got the Fourby Core 2 Hybrid turbo fitted now. Have a look at our facebook page for more info. It's quite incredible even if we do say sop ourselves.

I do not have a boost gauge installed myself. I have a boost controller and I have not fitted it yet because I dont have a gauge. If you go to fourby uk page there is lots of information about land rover tuning. They also post up a lot on their facebook page.
