Dalila is the oldest female gorilla in the troop. Zola, Mosi, and Nala are all descendants of the late silverback Makula. Loango is Makula’s brother. Silverback Lomako took over the troop in 2022. Baby Makongo is the descendant of silverback Lomako, and his mother, Tamidol, passed away on August 12th this year due to illness. Since Tamidol’s death, Dalila has taken on the responsibility of caring for baby Makongo as his adoptive mother.

Erm, can’t the keep give the bottle to Dalila to give to Makongo? Now I’m making up stories: Perhaps Dalila saw Tamidol with Makongo and lamented that her time for having babies was over. She may have been gazing at the baby longingly, her heart full of sadness. But now, by a twist of fate, she has a duty to raise Makongo and her heart is full of joy and love 💕🤷♀️😬
@AllThingsGorillaАй бұрын
@shawna6683 Dalila also enjoys drinking milk. She actively squeezes the nipple of the bottle, and if you give her a bottle of milk, she might even finish the baby’s bottle as well😂😂😂.

Dalila cannot meet the baby's growth needs, and the zookeeper also prefers that the baby drinks from a bottle, as it provides sufficient nutrition. If Makongo relies solely on Dalila for milk, he may end up rejecting the zookeeper's bottle.

The little monkeys are mangabeys, and they live together with the gorillas. They are quite mischievous. Besides the silverback, there are two other male gorillas, Loango and Mosi. They have been castrated, which affects their hormone levels, so they don’t have the same muscle mass as the silverback. The castration decision was made by the EAZA so the zoo is following orders. The decision was made so that surplus males can remain in their family groups without being aggressive to the silverback.

@@AllThingsGorilla thank you
@Catwomanria13579Ай бұрын
Thanks for your explanation! I also did not understand the appearance of the 2 growing males. I had understood in another response from abroad that castration is only applied here in Europe, to the great frustration of a number of followers. It will probably only be done in situations where there can be no exchange of gorillas. I think that could be a good solution, without the 'boys' suffering.

@AllThingsGorillaАй бұрын
When baby Makongo was 4 months old, her biological mother, Tamidol, passed away due to illness. The zoo sought out the oldest and highest-ranking female gorilla in the same troop, Dalila, to become the baby’s foster mom. More precisely, it was a mutual choice between Dalila and the baby. The zookeepers allowed all the family members, except for the silverback, to enter the room to be with the baby, and in the end, Dalila stepped up and became Makongo's foster mother.👸🦍♥️💪👍

Am surprised she does not encourage M to go to bottle for milk as Dis not dumb she clearly understands the zookeepers. Mosi every time see him can’t believe he’s real with those long thin arm so out proportion lol
@AllThingsGorillaАй бұрын
Dalila is very experienced in caring for the baby. I have observed many times that she doesn’t force Makongo to drink milk; instead, she provides companionship and brings the baby to the zookeeper. If the baby is hungry, he will finish an entire bottle of milk; if he isn't hungry, he will act like he did in the video and not drink at all.

This looks like a miserable environment for them all and the constant noise from the public is intrusive. Dalila is doing a sterling job looking after little one but she looks tired out and needs some spoiling herself ❤
@Danielleb72316 күн бұрын
I agree about the noise. It doesn't seem that loud here as I have seen at other places. They should try and enforce some noise restrictions for the benefit of the animals. Or at least give them a quiet area to escape to if needed. Maybe because I don't have children but it seems to me many parents don't correct their children in public places. I understand its not easy and people get excited but it really bothers me when it seems like some parents just let their kids run wild. They may have the innate ability to block it out but it is not always easy for everyone else.

Poorly worded title, don't you think? You don't really sacrifice anything if you're doing it for love, and based upon the few videos I have the pleasure to watch, she may not have birthed this future king of the Jungle, but make no mistake: Makongo is HERS!❤
@AllThingsGorilla18 күн бұрын
I agree with you, and why I used that title because I know what Dalila was like before-she would relax in the sun outdoors and spend time with her family. Since she became the adoptive mother of Makongo, she has sacrificed a lot of her own time. She had to adjust her schedule to accommodate the feeding and care of baby Makongo. That’s why I used the word “sacrifice” to describe it. Of course, from the perspective of love, Dalila doesn’t really need the word “sacrifice” to describe her actions.
