I love Lord of the Rings and Gandalf is up there with my favorite characters, but Dalinar saying that has so much more weight and backstory and impact imho. When I read Lord of the Rings and got to the exit of the mines part I was sad but didn't have ANYWHERE near the reaction I got from reading the "You. cannot have. my PAIN". That moment sent me into a adrenaline shaking roar all from a book. That is not something any other books do to me.

@@frking100 Tolkien invented the genre. Of course he will lead the numbers for a long time. Picasso was an inventor of a style. Have you seen his paintings now? @frking1005 жыл бұрын
@@SkyLordPanglot I did not mention just sales numbers or fandom size. When it comes to lore and world building Tolkien trashes Jordan. Sadly Jordan was pressed for time and his untimely death led to a drop in quality (headcannon). Maybe if he was given time and allowed to further develop his story he would have surpassed Tolkien but even then it would be up to debate. As for Sanderson he is very young (relatively) but his constant world hoping detract from making any of his series a true masterpiece. Maybe the stormlight archives will be it or it will fall in quality like Mistborn did after book 2

I think the hardest scenes to listen to are Dalinar watching Gav's funeral and of course, that terrible day in the Rift. for me as much as I love this series the best scene ive known in a book is when in wheel of time, Rand tells the flaw the dark one has and explains how the people still fight how he explains about them how they lost things and still fight “Here is your flaw, Shaitan, Lord of the Dark, Lord of Envy, Lord of Nothing, here is why you fail. It was not about me. It’s never been about me.” It was about a woman, torn and beaten down, cast from her throne and made a puppet. A woman who had crawled when she had to. That woman still fought. It was about a man that love repeatedly forsook. A man who found relevance in a world that others would have let pass them by. A man who remembered stories and who took fool boys under his wing when the smarter move would have been to keep on walking. That man still fought. It was about a woman with a secret, a hope for the future. A woman who had hunted the truth before others could. A woman who had given her live, then had it returned. That woman still fought. It was about a man whose family was taken from him, but who stood tall in his sorrow and protected those he could. It was about a woman who refused to believe that she could not help, could not heal those who had been harmed. It was about a hero who insisted with every breath that he was anything but a hero. It was about a woman who would not bend her back while she was beaten, and who shown with a light for all who watched, including Rand. It was about them all.

@@abdelrahmanalali5680 There is only a one year timeskip between oathbringer and rhythm but that matters very little. We do not know how long a radiant lives due to their ability to draw in stormlight and heal (zahel is immortal and breath holding is pretty close to what a radiant does) furthermore a bondsmith is supposed to be even stronger than your regular radiant. But the bond that Dalinar has with Stormfather is something completely new which neither know the limits of (no other bondsmith has summoned Honor's perpendicularly). This could mean that Daddynar is slowly becoming Honor (Stormfather is a splinter) and his whole Unity speech makes it seem like he will become the Harmony equivalent in roshar (Harmony being immortal)
@frking1004 жыл бұрын
@@abdelrahmanalali5680 Dalinar looses the match by not using stormlight (even the stormfather asks why). Healing in roshar and most of the cosmere is based on your mental image of yourself so one could argue that if a radiant believes himself/herself to be a certain age and not be able to get older or younger then he/she could stay that age and their body wouldn't change. Think of Lopen who was missing an arm probably for years and was able to regrow it while kaladin still has his scars. Another way for dalinar to achieve immortality is to make another oathpact and become a new herald. We know that the oathpact was made by Ishar who until now was the most powerful bondsmith but he seems to have lost his powers or was only able to do so with the honor blade but as I said before dalinar and the new stormfather have already surpassed your typical radiant and are probably in the same batting range as heralds. I still believe that by the end of stormlight dalinar will become the Harmony version of roshar and thus basically be a god and he does keep hearing the unite them line but now it is not from the stormfather or his visions.

I'll never forget the chill I got when I first heard this scene and knew exactly what Dalinar was about to do and, literally right as Syl spoke the words, I said in unison with the GraphicAudio, "Honor's Perpendicularity..." and the giddy fucking smile that stretched on my face as I said it 😆🤯

This showed up in my recommendations, but I wasn’t to this part in the vanilla audiobook version of Oathbringer yet, so I didn’t know what it was. Now I’m there, paused when I realized, and come over here. Damn... just... Damn. I still consider myself more a Mistborn fan than a Stormlight one. But this gave me chills I haven’t felt since Hero of Ages. Sanderson writes divinity scenes like he himself is fucking divine.

I love the part right after this......Amaram running in to strike then being blasted backward by Kaladin's beam of light

@DeedlyDood4 жыл бұрын
Dalinar is only on the third ideal at the end of Oathbringer as well as Kaladin and Teft. The only confirmed person on the their 4th oath is Szeth. (possible Jasnah, but not confirmed) The only confirmed 5th is Nale.

I love Dalinar as a character so much. And I love that Sanderson showed through this scene that acceptance of ones mistakes is the first step to grow beyond them. (I have read RoW now, so feel free to add spoilers. If you haven't, any replies might contain spoilers from now on)

ok on the one hand this is amazing. On the other, am I the only one that imagined Odium shocked and a bit frantic and not at all slippery and calm as he was at the start, and the line of "I will take responsibility..." verrry diffrently?😅
