Also there are enough seats in general category for everyone else to compete. Casteism is not there in Bengal. Even if there is it isn’t prevalent.there are two reasons for this. The general population in Bengal is actually lower than SC st counterparts. And the only upper castes are Kayasthas and Brahmins. No other caste exists in Bengal for the most part. Even among Brahmins and Kayasthas there are upper Brahmins or kulin Brahmins and kulin kayastas. Also my fathers family was from Dhaka side of Bengal. And I have heard of some practices like if even the shadow of a lower caste person fell on our land or house. The place was washed with Ganga jal and there was some puja done. I am glad we don’t do this shit anymore. Bengalis only care about caste when it comes to marriage I feel. Which is also going away.

I don't live in rural area, my city is fairly developed. In schools we don't talk about castes and stuff so I thought it is not an issue that I'm a dalit untill my one friend came to me to talk about our one classmate and her words were "Are woh na lower caste ki hai" without knowing that I'm also a dalit but I did not hide my identity and confronted her and said "we both share the same caste" she was very embarrassed. Caste system will exist as long as Hinduism exists. The caste system in Hinduism as practised in India and Nepal is a decree of the Hindu scriptures. It is mentioned in Hindu scriptures like Gita and Manusmiriti. So the professions in India have originated from the Caste of a person. Moreover, the Hindu caste system tells you that if you are a Dalit then you have to do good karma first in this life to become a Brahmin in your next birth and then you can attain the moksha (as per Manu Smriti). A study of various religions of the world makes it clear that only the Hindu religion sanctions the worst form of discrimination based on one’s birth. May be some followers of other religions also practice some sort of caste discrimination. However, their religious texts do not approve of the caste discrimination. This is not the case with Hinduism though. Hindus derive the caste system directly from their scriptures and their scriptures sanction Caste discrimination. Again, if a hindu follows their Dharma strictly then they have to adhere to the caste system.

I was a DHEEWAR caste OBC category Hindu but, But in 12th class Upper caste hindu did a lot of discrimination with me which hurts me a lot then I realized , How My Schedule Caste and schedule tribes and OBC caste brother's family suffered.. I hate general caste hindu and definitely I will change my dharma.

I being a dalit Christian male agree with your views. dalits don't realise the gravity of caste system and it's systematic discrimination. Hinduism supports caste system and effectively low caste people can never be lifted out of their status. They are forever considered low. I can't believe how dalits can still be hindus when the the very hindus maintained that dalits are inferior. Thank God for the British .

@@JitendraSingh-ut3vj In Andhra Pradesh dalit Christians are those who are formerly scheduled castes but who converted to Christianity. They do not come under SC category. In a secular country like India everyone has the right to choose and follow whatever religion they like. But only the Dalits can't choose Christianity or Islam whereas all other castes can choose and still claim their reservation. The STs and OBCs have no such restriction. They can change their religion and still claim reservation. The SCs should only be hindu/ Buddhist/sikh. Obviously merely by changing their faith their social or economic status will not be improved. They are still considered as low caste and cannot be rich overnight. The govt has brought this rule to curtail the Dalits from converting to Christianity.

Yaar yeh kaun sa gaon hai. In my fathers village and my mom's village, i have never seen these things. Instead we call them at our home in almost every occasions. Also, we work together on our fields, and then sometimes eat together. My brothers have guided the poor children in their career and have helped many such people financially. Being a Jaat, i have seen this in my family some 20 years back. But things have changed after my grandparents passed away. Now i feel there is no discrimination against such people. I dont know which village is this. Such a shame.

I belong to sc community dalit and one thing I face in school and in college and in my apartment building whenever anyone is asking about my cast i m scared because many things come in my mind first if I tell my real caste they will bully me with my caste name and some of might not showing that they discriminate me but they will stay away from me. In my apartment people share thier Prasad with everyone but one day when my mom came from mandir and then i asked her mom why u not share ur Prasad then she replied to me that if I gave them Prasad they take that Prasad later they will throw it. bcoz they consider we are dalit so they think it against thier caste beliefs that they took something from low caste people. They are not showing but still pratice caste discrimination I m not blaming him bcoz it's a stereotype and our society also encourage these thing...

I really admire The Quint team for making this video that describes the prevailing condition of our secularist nation. The so called poison called aggressive casteism is being sprouted and transferred from generations to generations even without it's rate of concentration.
