When I moved into what was The Bridge On The Creek, on Fair Oaks Crossing, in the fall of ‘82, it was adults only. It was in the rental agreement that if you had a baby while living there that you had to move out before the child reached ten months of age. A couple of years later, the adults only requirements were outlawed.

I heard back then many of complexes had sponsored beer parties. Budweiser, Miller, etc. would have their trucks pull right into the apts and serve all weekend long. I was a young adult in the late 90s so I missed out on that.

Yes, back in the late 70s & early to mid 80s, apts had big parties, The Seasons on Melody Lane had a big splash weekend party& the Village apts (upper Greenville) had tons of pool parties.

@@oscarg.3330 Oh, I would know that area anywhere! Lol... I was raised in The Village' Corners East from the time I was born, until I turned 12 (so November of 1986, until we moved to Carrollton in December of 1998). When I saw the long, hilly roads and those tall, curvy, wooden street lamps, I knew, right off the bat, that it was my old stomping grounds... Actually drove by my old, childhood apartment just the other day, and it's still keeping up appearances! #8557SouthwesternBlvd #Apt2212 #DallasTX #75206 🙂

@@oscarg.3330 Absolutely! My mother and aunt first moved in five years prior, in the summer of '81, and when mom became pregnant with me, my grandma (who's from Sulphur Springs) moved in with them to help raise me while they went to work. So, in total, we all lived in The Corners East a combined 17 years. Such awesome childhood memories! :-)

It was a lot easier for a family to afford a house then, so this really wasn’t as big of an issue as it is now. The price of a house has gone up much faster than people’s incomes. The average house price in Dallas went from $35,000 in 1975 to $420,000 last year. That’s 12 times higher… and incomes are only 6 times higher than in 1975.

My first apartment complex was singles only. It was FABULOUS. I HATE that they changed that law.

The Village how long has that apartment community been around? It seems like everyone who lives in Dallas at one time lived in The Village.

I moved to Dallas in 1978. The Village was rocking and rolling when I got to town.

I believe The Village dates to the late ‘60s and early ‘70s. Old Town in The Village, with the first TGI Friday’s, opened in the early ‘70s.

The Village was also huge in the '80s... *"Dallas"* used to shoot scenes there; in The Corners East. The show even filmed some scenes at the old Village Country Club. 😉

I recall that The Village did have one section for families, with its own school shuttle. Families would have found more apartment options in the suburbs, where the schools were seen as better than DISD.

Once these managers saw that single tenants were leaving the apt in good shape when they moved out, the apt was missing out on money. They saw an opportunity to charge the tenants for damage and keep their deposits. Even the smallest amount. The children usually leave more damage to the unit. Just enough to keep every families deposit who had kids present. The property was able to actually make some good profits from keeping deposits. And boy have they grown in price. Smh Kids were flooding the places after they found out this loophole.

Now, people here cannot afford a house and rent costs are rising thus individuals and families are having even more problems saving for a home.
