Mr. Memorabilia the producers did the character a disservice by turning JR into Cliff Barnes after the B.D Calhoun fiasco. The character of JR Ewing is what made Dallas the success it was and they really turned him into a buffoon. Even in the end, they kept him from controlling Ewing Oil.

In the Book it was worse. JR got a Cop to smash Alan in the Stomach and threw him in the Car. Alan almost got sick and the Cop calmly reminded him that if he did get sick on his car, he'd be torn apart. Also, remember what JR did to that Fellow who was dating Kristin. He was played by the Late Terry Lester who would spend Six Years as Jack Abbott #1 on The Young & The Restless from 1983-1989. He later died of a Heart Attack bought upon his HIV Status. Sadly enough Dack Rambo (Ex-Jack Ewing) would also die of AIDS.

A lot of people are pointing to this as "the peak" of Dallas. And maybe it was. I'd say it was the moment the series truly defined itself, as the miniseries was an introduction, and the 1978-1979 season was not serialized. The 1979-1980 season was the template for everything that came after it.
@teddelguercio217310 ай бұрын
A solid analysis. I think the "peak" was aeound this time, maybe up until 1982 or 83. JR's ruthless was just on another level at this time. Good stuff.

Of all the people on Dallas to come/go, they could've done the most with Kristin: she could've taken up with J.R., Cliff, or Dusty Farlow, to get at her sister; she could've been a conniving secretary; she could've come between Bobby and Pam; she could've dragged Ray down or had an affair with Jock...the sky was the limit!
