The transformation of Larry Hagman from character Tony Nelson to JR Ewing was amazing. He went from a sitcom wimp to a conniving Texas oil man in short order. Whoever made the decision to cast him for the part deserves the same plaudits as the person who cast Peter Falk as Columbo.

Its kind of amazing that JR Ewing is the right wing Republican oil guy, but in REALITY Larry Hagman is a staunch Democrat, was against George W Bush, and is an alternative energy guy. So he is pretty much a polar opposite.
