In the first season, which was very short - Pam was the CENTER of the stories.....most people don't know that. Apparently the producers liked Larry Hagman's performance so much they made HIM the made center of the show.

When you are young and in love you are painfully naive to the point of sheer stupidity. Bobby & Pamela had the Romeo/Juliet Vibe in the sense that their love would stop a nearly 45 Year Old Feud. It's too bad Jock and Digger couldn't meet privately and talk their "Issues" out. I think that for Digger blaming Jock for what happened to him made it easier not to blame "himself".

@MsTexas73

Anthony Kuszel It actually was winter. The mini series was filmed winter 1978. This is the same time period that there was a blizzard happening up in the north in the Great Lakes region (Cleveland and Buffalo for sure caught hell). It actually snowed a little in Dallas during filming of the mini series but melted right away so they had to of course help it out a bit in some of the scenes with “faux snow”. But where you see them looking cold; they are it faking it. It WAS cold.

Boy Jock didn't Play. He went to the "Heart" of The Issue. I sometimes wonder if the "We Don't Talk Business" around Dinner was inspired By The Godfather. Remember how Sonny was a bundle of contradictions first talking about the Folks of Harlem, Carlo tried to assert himself in The Conversation then Connie reminded Them that Papa didn't talk Business at The Table, then when Carlo asked if he could meet with Tom later and talk because he had some "ideas" Sonny hollered at him and said "We Don't Talk Business At The Table."

The Cloyce Box ranch, the first « Southfork ranch » for 5 episodes 👍🏼 Then, the show moved to the ranch "Duncan Acres", near Plano, Texas until the end. The ranch house no longer exists, having been destroyed by a fire in 1987.

Here's sme fun casting facts. Robert Foxworth (Ex-Chase Gioberti) was considered to play either Bobby or JR while Linda Evans (Ex-Krystle Carrington Dynasty) and Judith Chapman (Gloria Bardwell The Young & The Restless) were considered for the Role Of Pam. Bobby was supposed to Die and he left Pam his fortune of Half A Billion Dollars. I don't think that the Writers had any idea of how successful the show would be. In another part of the world JR is known as Jockey, in French it's G R sounding like Gee R. Also Larry Hagman wasn't impressed by Linda Gray's Acting and he almost got her Fired but she ended up being a successful Director.

More interesting facts. Originally when Dallas aired the primary focus was always going to be in Bobby and Pam the modern day Romeo and Juliet. JR was to be merely a secondary character. However it was eventually rewritten when the character of JR became hugely popular and the height of the popularity resulted in the season 3 cluff-hanger known as 'A house divided' and JR being shot. That also was due to Larry looking for a pay rise due his popularity. It was Larry that turned JR Ewing into the character everyone loved to hate. He was loved because he was so evil.

Mary Frann (of "Newhart") was considered for Sue Ellen. "Dallas" creator David Jacobs was inspired by "Cat On A Hot Tin Roof" and "Giant". Barbara Bel Geddes played Maggie the cat in "Cat On A Hot Tin Roof" on Broadway.

She also played Abby #2 on The Eight Is Enough Movie when Betty Buckley (Abby #1) wasn't available. She was the Toast of Broadway with Cats at the time.

In those early episodes I found it amusing that SOME of the cast members were doing vocal accents to give it a Texas feel; where later on, they affected more of a "California" type of accent . . . in other words, sounding neutral.

Larry Hagman, Susan Howard, Morgan Woodward were all native Texans, and Jim Davis who was not a Texan but was from Missouri, all sounded authentic.

@Carolyn Argabright . . . Agreed! Thanks for pointing out the Texans in the cast, and the four you pointed out sounded legit from the get-go. I was one of those later TV viewers that started watching Dallas in season four; which, by that time, Bobby and Pam sounded like Californians. So, years later, when viewing the first season in re-runs, and hearing Pam and Bobby speak, what comes to mind (in a tone of puzzlement) is: "What in the world?!" Ken Kercheval I could never quite figure out when it came to his speaking style. I'm aware he's from Indiana, but the Cliff character had the abrasiveness one could associate with an easterner.
