And I'll be honest I forgot all about it within weeks because there was basically no coverage of it and it was only until the next year when I happened to see something on KZbin about it that I went and reinvestigated and researched this incident. And I'm just absolutely appalled by how little coverage and how little public or institutional knowledge there is of what happened that day. Lorne Ahrens, he answered that call. So did his wife, Katrina -- not only because she was the spouse of a police officer, but because she’s a detective on the force. They have two kids. And Lorne took them fishing, and used to proudly go to their school in uniform. And the night before he died, he bought dinner for a homeless man. And the next night, Katrina had to tell their children that their dad was gone. “They don’t get it yet,” their grandma said. “They don’t know what to do quite yet.” Michael Krol answered that call. His mother said, “He knew the dangers of the job, but he never shied away from his duty.” He came a thousand miles from his home state of Michigan to be a cop in Dallas, telling his family, “This is something I wanted to do.” Last year, he brought his girlfriend back to Detroit for Thanksgiving, and it was the last time he’d see his family. Michael Smith answered that call -- in the Army, and over almost 30 years working for the Dallas Police Association, which gave him the appropriately named “Cops Cop” award. A man of deep faith, when he was off duty, he could be found at church or playing softball with his two girls. Today, his girls have lost their dad, for God has called Michael home. Patrick Zamarripa, he answered that call. Just 32, a former altar boy who served in the Navy and dreamed of being a cop. He liked to post videos of himself and his kids on social media. And on Thursday night, while Patrick went to work, his partner Kristy posted a photo of her and their daughter at a Texas Rangers game, and tagged her partner so that he could see it while on duty. Brent Thompson answered that call. He served his country as a Marine. And years later, as a contractor, he spent time in some of the most dangerous parts of Iraq and Afghanistan. And then a few years ago, he settled down here in Dallas for a new life of service as a transit cop. And just about two weeks ago, he married a fellow officer, their whole life together waiting before them. Edit: Since most don't get it, this is the full version of all the five officers death by Barack Obama

The moment I heard "cant bring rifle or armor" i would have quit on the spot tbh. that PD values their image more than the lives of their officers.
@Tom_Cruise_Missile9 ай бұрын
So you want to walk around in body armor carrying a rifle? Why are all cops terrified of the people they're supposed to protect? People get shot in mass shootings. It happens to everyone. That doesn't mean we all should walk around carrying assault rifles.
@Z38_US9 ай бұрын
They value the trust of the public which just so happens to include their image. Having the public's trust is probably one of, if not the most important aspects of a police department. Them saying they can't wear heavy body armor and can't bring long guns is understandable if they had these still available in their cars just in case. The decision to not even have them in the cars is what is unacceptable.
@yankeeangelfan45649 ай бұрын
@@Z38_USyou know what’s even more important? Your life. At the end of the day yeah that’s what the job entails and most know what they’re signing up for, but I’d be damned if I was in that profession and being told not to be equipped with what could potentially save my life. Dumb statement and point of view.
@Z38_US9 ай бұрын
@@yankeeangelfan4564The people were protesting the militarization of the police and you want them to show up with heavy body armor and fully automatic rifles looking literally like the military? That immediately tells me that you wouldn't fit into that profession. Sure your live is very important that is no question but like I said I can understand them preventing the officers from going fully geared up to the protest but they should have all their stuff in the cars just in case. If they did it probably wouldn't have gone as badly. If they had it right from the get go it would likely have the same outcome as if they had the gear in the car. Your life is important but the general public having your back is the most important thing because without that you have no power to help anyone.

For an understandable reason, if u have seen all the Carnage they cause a cross the country. Violating peoples rights on a daily basis, shooting unarmed civilians, shooting family dogs... Couple interesting tidbits of information that I will share from both living and working as LE in the area when this occurred - They had so many officers attempt to check on scene and became involved in this incident that their CAD system crashed completely, and ended up being down for upwards of an hour while the shooting was still actively occurring, which essentially rendered dispatch blind and nearly useless, through no fault of their own. Further adding to the confusion and chaos. Also, to the points regarding the horrendous management by the chief. Chief David Brown (mentioned in the video) was notorious for running the agency into the ground and pandering to the city council, etc. In the history of the agency, he was the starting point of the officer shortage crisis they're still experiencing to this day, being 500+ officers short. Case in point, in 2010, his son (a convicted felon) shot and killed a police officer at a neighboring agency during a disturbance call. Chief Brown proceeded to then issue an agency memo stating that any officer who was told to work his son's funeral and refused to do so would be terminated immediately. He was well and truly despised by the rank & file officers under him.
