I've been in Dallas for 13 years now, the eye is actually the result of a dispute between the property owner and the city over permits. They wanted to make it a business or something but the city refused to grant any permits so they "got back" at the city by placing the eye there as an eyesore to troll the city.

This is awesome! Seems I need to "play tourist" in my town again, as I did not know about 1/2 of the places/things you and your Dad covered. I love that the staff at Cattleack BBQ said they would throw Pops out if he used any sauce on that beef rib. I agree...properly done, BBQ does NOT need sauce....that said, anything you do add, should enhance the flavor, but not smother it. Who knew there was a BIG EYE in Dallas? LOL Too much "work from home" lately. haha.

haha we loved that about Texas BBQ is that the sauce was never needed on good BBQ. Yea, the big eye was pretty fun to see and super random but I loved it.

Like Pop I was in school but in the 5th grade. Suddenly our teacher was called out of the room. She came back in crying and told us Pres Kennedy had been killed. We went home and were off of school and watched the funeral. A few years ago I drove down Dealy Plaza and was surprised how small it was compared to what TV made it to be. Sad time in America.

Lived in Fort Worth for over 30 years and spent quite some time in Dallas (unfortunately). Actually the ONLY reason to visit Dallas is to walk around Dealey Plaza, the Sixth floor and all the JFK assassination stuff. The rest of the city is not very "Texan" at all and rather non descript and boring.

I was also in the 2nd grade at Waxahachie ISD during the JFK assassination. We were all brought to a particular teacher's classroom as a large group and our school principal announced it over the intercom. We were soon loaded on our busses to go home where we watched everything on TV. Even at seven years old I remember the surreal feelings of national trauma. It didn't matter what age you were - we were all feeling the same thing.

I live in Fort Worth Texas. I was barely a teen at the time our President was killed. He had flown in to Fort Worth the night before going to Dallas and my parents took us kids to see the plane come in. It was so exciting. When President Kennedy stepped off the plane the first thing I noticed was how handsome and tan he was. Jackie was beautiful. The next day in class it was announced the Kennedy had been shot and was heading toward Parkland hospital. The intercom came back on a little later to tell us he had died. We too went home from school and spent days in front of a black and white TV. It was sad and you didn’t want to watch, but you felt you must. Businesses where empty, nothing was going on, it was like the world stopped.😊

You covered many interesting places. Dallas has a LOT to see so you could not have possibly covered it in that length of time. Dallas also has some of the best variety of amazing restaurants in Texas. (It ranks pretty high in national rankings that I’ve read.) A couple more places that I love there are the Dallas Arboretum and the Perot Museum of Nature and Science.

@prowrestlingisart6742 Жыл бұрын
@@ThroughMyLens 14 spots wow. I don't think I could do that unless I spaced it out over 2-3 weeks. It is so easy to spend a lot of money at BBQ places because you get a little of this and a little of that, 1/2 lb here, 1/2 lb there and before you know it, you are at $100. Plus some of the places only take cash so you got to ready for that too. I love visiting those places. The smells are heavenly.

Southfork Ranch in Dallas where the Dallas series was filmed was a lovely place to visit away from the bustling life of Dallas...Downtown in the centre some where they had a live band playing ... Trip down memory lane...

There are far better and cheaper ribs all over Texas. They're expensive because they are sold in Dallas, which is a big city.
