Literally never throw anything out that isn’t a purely digital device (also dispose of those through the right channels, as hard to find as they may be) because worse case scenario you can convert it to be analog if you can’t get a replacement for the control board, and you can sell off parts if you can’t fix it at all, helping others fix it, also giving away images and video of the internals of things like this also help people because the manufacturers seem to never do so.

First off, thanks for uploading this video! Before going online and searching for fuses to buy, check to see if the crimp on the fuse and the red wire is loose. The fuse itself might be fine. Tightening it saved me from waiting for the order to come in.

Do not leave the thermal fuse away from the heat source, it’s whole purpose is to detect excessive heat beyond what the device should normally allow
@rickkcir9959
@rickkcir9959 2 жыл бұрын
Awesome video, but you need to PUT IT BACK AGAINST THE HEAT exactly as you found it. It is like that for safety. It blows by being is the hottest spot and saves the electronics and your house from burning down by melting before anything else can get overheated. It will likely never get hot enough to save you if you remove it from its proper spot. Just be thankful it did its job and saved you when you blocked the vents, and allow the new one to do the same. Make sure you crimp it in like the original.
@DallasCanada
@DallasCanada 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I decided to do that instead. Thanks for the comment as you are correct.

What if I drilled 5 1/4" holes above where that fuse sits, to allow more venting, would that make any difference?
@buybuydandavis
@buybuydandavis Жыл бұрын
@@BeatlemaniaPAUL The point is not to prevent the fuse from blowing, it's to replace it with one that will equally protect from overheating. Hopefully the problem was just a fuse that blew too easily. If the oven is overheating *we want* the next fuse to blow too.
@christopherdobbs3601
@christopherdobbs3601 Жыл бұрын
Hey Rick, I agree with your assessment, but I think this could still be a design problem on the air fryer. The heating elements are located directly under where the fuse is clipped to on the chassis. Only a small air gap and thin piece of sheet metal separate them. Since the fuse is rated to 184C (363F) and the oven is capable of operating up to 500F (the elements likely gets hotter than this), then I assume this issue will reproduce itself unless a change is made. Unfortunately it is dangerous to put this decision in the consumer's hands, but it is clear there is a design issue with this product and I personally believe a higher rated fuse is required for this application.
@rickkcir9959
@rickkcir9959 Жыл бұрын
@@christopherdobbs3601 Hey Christopher. It is mounted there, where it is hottest, on purpose to ensure that the heat has not penetrated the skin of the oven even a little. The heat is supposed to stay in the oven box. The inner temp may be 500F, but there MUST be enough airflow in that outer jacket to keep that skin cool. If you put the unit n a corner or something, it will recirculate the already hot "cooling air" and pop the fuse. If you relocate or bypass the fuse then there is no protection for people who choose to choke off the vents because they didn't fully understand the instructions or intent of the designers. Not everyone will even read them. To be clear. If you put the unit where it can get cool air, that fuse will never trip as long as the fan is intact. If someone keeps fixing it and putting it back in that tiny corner where it will recirculate the heat exhaust, that fuse will blow, AS INTENDED, every time, over and over, and save your house. Please don't alter the design as it is doing exactly what it is supposed to. It ensures that even if YOU create a danger, which is the case if the fuse got hot enough to trip, the oven will refuse to burn your house down. Also, going above that circuit boards design temp renders the electronics unreliable. It was specifically chosen to keep the circuitry in spec. Once it overheats even once, it may be rendered dangerous.The brainbox must be kept in spec to not fry.

Our air fryer was only a couple months old when it died. This fixed the issue, however I suspect this will happen again. I was able to re-use the original crimps, but the next time this happens I'll have to use new ones. Curious if a higher temp rated fuse might be better. It's obviously a safety issue, but there are ones at 192, 216, etc....

Thanks so much for the video! It was definitely the fuse for me. I checked with a multimeter to confirm and it checked out. When trying to pull out the fuse though, it was very difficult. The leads on both ends broke apart and now part of them are stuck into the two connectors on both sides. Any advice on how to MacGyver my way outta this one? Any hacks to reattach another fuse? Thinking I may need to just solder it on I guess? Thanks!

Thanks for your comment, I'm happy to help. One easy way is to just connect right to each metal end as is. I stripped some of the original red insulation off, threaded through and twisted around tight with pliers. Then wrapped with original white insulation. Done. Solder would work great👍

I found this thread after replacing the thermal fuse and having that fuse blow a few minutes into to a air fry test run. I guess something is causing the oven to get too hot. Wish I had saved the receipt, although it sounds likely that a replacement wouldn’t have lasted long either. Win some, loose some.
