I've been using these for years when we go camping. Naturally, I decided to try it for washing cars years ago. Unfortunately, it didn't really help at all. I still see them getting recommended in various detailing groups for spot-free alternatives so I decided to test it again. This time I measured to see if it actually reduces the Total Dissolved Solids. The reading after the filter was only 20 TDS lower than before the filter. That was a reduction of less than 10%. I wasn't too broken up over it since I always have these around the house anyway. However, they aren't worth buying (or even using) for the sole purpose of car washing.

Good video Scott. I would recommend checking the filter instructions to see what the recommended flow rates are. If the water is flowing too fast you may not be getting optimal filtration. Of course, if you are happy with the results then thats fine; just wanted to mention that filters have recommended flow rates for them to work properly. The ones for my drinking water system are 3 litres/min max so I need to reduce the pressure from 15 litres/min which is my mains flow rate.
@annagraham62042 жыл бұрын
It’s a crap video with no tds before and after. Yes you are supposed to mist on the final rinse but when it’s only a 20pt reduction in tds it’s worthless in Arizona.

These work good for rinseless washing as well. Not as slick as with distilled but I think it’s splitting hairs to be honest. Will you need distilled for hot summer months in direct sunlight? Probably. But this will save a bit of money and plastic from throwing away jugs for a good bit of the year.

I hooked up 4 Dupont filters 1 10 micron to a 1 micron to a carbon filter to a deionizer resin filter. The first 3 are rated for 15,000 gallons before changing. The deionizer more often. The great thing about this system is the charcoal and dionzer have bypass values allowing you to still have good water without wasting the deionized water. Total cost including all the hardware was $150.00 and that includes 3 extra cartridges for each cannister.

The 2 different filters I used are Dupont WFPF 13003 B (blue) comes with a 10 micron filter and mounting bracket (not used) and Dupont universal valve in head (clear) WFPF 38001 C includes 5 micron carbon wrap filter no mounting bracket. These units take standard 10" filters. The most important filter is the Aquatic Life reverse osmosis deionization (RODI) color indicating mixed bed DI resin filter. These come 'with 3/4 " NPT so I used common pvc connections in between and NPT to GHT connectors on in and out along with quick connects. The in head units seem to have a leaking problem so i recomend using joint compound and or extra tape for the connections and waiting 24 hrs before using. I set up my units in a U configuration to fit in a husky tool caddie from HD . All items were purchased through amazon, e-bay or home depot

loniedupre88 for what's it's worth I use ONR with distilled water. 1 capful in 1 gal. I brought 2 gallons put a capful into each one, dumped into a 3 gallon bucket with a lid. I have washed my car 3 times and I don't think I have used 1/2 a gallon yet. It takes me 2 16x16 inch towels to do my Honda Accord. Dry as I finish one section and follow up with Optimum spray wax. My car is a black 2005 & daily driver. And I get lots of compliments on how nice it looks. By the way the water costs under a dollar per gallon. Good luck
@loniedupre886 жыл бұрын
Blair Stewart thanks man. I’ve been using ONR for a while now. Always with distilled water. I’m just trying to see if I can get away with tap water lol. I tried it today with regular tap water and it didn’t work nearly as well as distilled of course. Hoping the filter gets me close enough to the performance of distilled water without having to buy gallons and gallons of the stuff. Trying to not have so many jugs to throw away.
@bstewartexecutivecarcare69536 жыл бұрын
loniedupre88 I understand completely. Keep us posted on your results.

Blair Stewart definitely. Going rinseless personally and professionally for ecological reasons. Throwing a bunch of plastic jugs away doesn’t help much lol. I’ll still need some distilled water for a few things but just trying to get away with as much as I can without cutting corners and quality.
@loniedupre886 жыл бұрын
Blair Stewart so it came in and and tried out using the filtered water with ONR. I like it. No additional water spotting from what was already from rain. It felt almost as slick as distilled water. Dried very easily as well. I wasn’t in direct sunlight so I still need to try that. But so far I think it’s a winner. Probably in summer months I’ll still need to use distilled water, but I think this will get me by for the majority of the time and save money and plastic.

Jonnie Bangkok, I really wonder what this filter is doing. Chemically, If it really removes heavy metals like iron and copper, then maybe it's also picking up some of the magnesium and calcium that are the bulk of the water spot material? Or maybe the heavier metals play a role in water spotting? Maybe stabilize the crystals in the water spot and make them harder to remove? Lots of possibilities. Probably the carbon isn't a factor, but who knows, maybe there are organics in the water that are involved in water spotting.
