Congratulations for the video! I am Brazilian and unfortunately there is no material available in my country about the Dalton brothers. I heard about the case of the Dalton's Brothers through the song called "Doolin Dalton" and I was researching more about in the Internet. Anyway, congratulations again!

Emmett Dalton actually became a successful real estate agent in Hollywood California. He also helped movie makers with some of the earlier western movies.

The Coffeyville raid is right up there with the Gunfight at the OK Corral,Northfield Minnesota,and the Little Big Horn as far as western lore goes. Its good to see so many of the sights there still visible.

My family on my mothers side resides from the Tulsa, OK., and Coffeyville, KS., area. I have heard countless stories from Uncles, Aunts, Grandparents, etc., about the Dalton gang and how some of our family was involved in the shootout at the banks. Visited the old museum and the grave site many times. The grave was unmarked for many years until it started becoming a tourist attraction and the city decided to place a grave marker there . I can remember visiting the grave when I was a kid before the marker was placed. My grandfather worked for the railroad for more than 30 years and lived in Coffeyville. In fact, my grandparents lived on Walnut street just a few blocks up from where the banks were located. I have some of the bricks with the Coffeyville stamp on them. Most of my family has either died or moved away from the area so I haven't visited Coffeyville in many years. It looks like they have updated some of the attractions so I'll have to plan a visit soon with my family. Thanks for the memories.

Lou Barndollar, a former English instructor at Coffeyville Community College, wrote a book titled, "What Really Happened on October 5, 1892 : An Attempt at an Accurate Account." It can be found on Amzon but seems to be rather pricy since it may be out of print with a copyright of 1992. It is probably the most definitive book on the true facts related to the raid on the two banks. The book was written for the 100th anniversary of the bank robbery.

did you check out the old jail?
@1880TimeTraveler10 жыл бұрын
Where is it located?
@starrfisher10 жыл бұрын
at the start of the alley when you walk off the street where the band with bullet holes in it. it should say old jail. if you need more help go to the museum and they can also help. once you find it you can insert a quarter and listen to the story while a light lights up the inside with four dummies laying inside. its cool
@1880TimeTraveler10 жыл бұрын
Starr fisher, yes I thought maybe you were talking about the jail thing in the alley, but was wasn't sure, yes we saw it, but I guess I somehow missed the coin slot part. or I have forgotten about it. has the coin slot been there long? I think we just looked in the window,, well I reckon that's a good reason to go back,, We have been wanting to anyway, And after we were there I picked up a copy of Emmett Dalton's book, "When the Daltons Rode" And I must say, although his writing style was a bit, you might say grandiose, His description of being on the losing end of the battle was worth the price of the book.
@1880TimeTraveler10 жыл бұрын
Starr fisher, I reviewed my video at the 3;14 mark I see what looks like a red box type thing on the wall, is THAT the coin box?
@starrfisher10 жыл бұрын
you come right in front of the city jail witch is the old jail at the 3:10 mark of your video. go on that platform yes that red box will take quarters and tell the story of that day.

My Great Grandfather was the town doctor at the time of the raid he was the one who said they are dead. The buildings are still in the same spots. In the alley the town use to have marks of actual bullet holes left but now they have been painted over (sad really) In the muesum you can see the gun picked up by my great grandfather off the street that one of the boys dropped.

It seems to be in line with the whole American spirit to celebrate the maverick, anti-establishment, the loner, or the one who, despite the system, 'makes it' despite any odds, - especially the social miscreant or, - enemy of the status quo - the gunfighter. Ask anyone and they are far-far more likely to remember some bad-guy than virtually any good one. Why it is though specifically that the 'criminal' is celebrated, revered, hailed and even honored cannot be this comment. But-it-can't-be denied - it is true ! The absolutely gargantuan difference in benefit from a scientist or even a speculator and the average gun-carrying complete loser who left school at ? - bent on 'nothing' but stealing and violence, - contributing zero to anything but self-servicing desires and at-the-same time being virtually nothing to life but destruction and wholesale robbery from the whole of society, - I just wonder if it's just or curiously American only. And just WHY is that ? Perhaps as homogeneity in all things which make a stable , cohesive, and singular-minded people, begins to gradually pine, it's natural to expect change and discord, conflict, and 'every social miscreant'. When the world is disliked the way it is, the 'criminal' challenging the system is championed. I don't know. 'Freedom' is open-water, - away from the march of boots and the regimentation of life. The more distant from the rule and law of a social groundwork beneath our feet, the easier a course and the more remote the memory of limits. It is because freedom is not natural that it comes at such a cost.
