Emily Rudd absolutely killed that scene. Kneeling on the ground in the middle of a dusty road, stabbing your own arm because you hate your tattoo and screaming 'ARLONG' at the top of your lungs over and over is an extremely melodramatic moment that works just fine in animation, but it really difficult to sell as a real life human being. For her to make it appropriately emotional and believable is a testament to her skills as an actress. Also, Luffy giving Nami his hat was the scene we anime fans were all waiting for. We knew that this adaptation would live or die based on whether or not they nailed some specific moments, and that one was near the top of the list.

Why do I feel like Emily, being a longtime fan of Nami and One Piece in general, had actually been practicing that moment for so long for if there was ever a chance she could play Nami in some form someday? Because she flipping NAILED it!

You have to admit though that it gives 2/10 of the feelings that the anime gives. That only shows how good the anime actually is, because they did a very good job in the live action.

@@mohit.d.jain98 There hasn't been a time that I watched this scene in anime and haven't teared up, and I've watched it too many times. When I saw it in the live action, I felt almost nothing. I believe the problem is that in LA, Luffy is a lot more serious, but in anime he is always goofing around (even when he told her that he doesn't know her story). That's why, when he does get serious, it's a lot more impactful. Also, both of the voice actors in the anime did too much of a great work in that scene that nobody can even get close to it....

I think the panel when they say "Right" at 15:38 is super underrated! It basically shows how now the three 100% see and accept Luffy as their captain and leader and believe in him fully! So awesome!

I don't know if they'll cover this in the live action, but if you watch the anime you'll want to remember Arlong park.....there's a reason why, out of all the hideout/headquarters names in the world, Arlong made his look like a theme park.

The last 2 eps had quite a way to use colors, Nami's backstory being so colorful running in the garden, then her collecting berries in the village being dull colored, but the crew having more color depth when they entered, etc.

The reason Mihawk and Zef knew Luffy was Garp's grandson was because lots of people in the world know of Monkey D. Garp. Hes the hero of the Marines and known world wide for being the man who caught Roger. As soon as Luffy says he's Monkey D Luffy and Garp is interested in him, Zeff and Mihawk put two and two together. Also that Nami "help me" scene is iconic and Emily Rudd absolutely nailed it.

Yeah, the general implication is that the general public only know him as "Vice Admiral Garp, the hero that brought Gold Roger to justice". But all of the old-timer pirates from before Gold Roger's execution knew him as Monkey D. Garp and are able to make the connections to this new kid introducing himself as Monkey D. Luffy.

The live action is good in it's own right. Though the anime is more violent and more emotional at the same time, I still love watching both (anime and opla)! And now I'm re-reading the manga from the start because of the live action. 😇🥰 I'm actually rereading because there are so many differences on how the events took place -- cue in Luffy eating the devil fruit 3 different ways for 3 different reasons -- also the liveaction is more faithful to the manga than the anime but the anime has more action scenes and the characters are way stronger.

The walk to arlong park is one of the most iconic momments in all one piece it showed us glimpse of what to expect in this anime. Momments like this is what i scared when they announced the live action but they did justice to the scene. Yea the anime and manga did a outstanding job but the live action really tryed their best the actress who played nami did a wonderful job the whole scene was 7/10 compared to the anime.

I think out of all the scenes in the manga, they adapted the scene with Nami stabbing herself and then asking Luffy for help the most faithfully. And if any scene got that treatment, it should be that one.

I'm surprised ppl are surprised by others linking Garp and Luffy as family. Garp is the hero who was there for Pirate King's execution, most people would know him, and more involved ppl would know his full name: Monkey D. Garp, then it's not so hard to link, especially when he is chasing him.

This becomes more evident the more you get though the story but there’s not a lot of killing in OP (look at all the villains of the week that are still around). The creator is very choosy about death and prefers to punish them by destroying their plans (crushing their dreams so to say)

Yeah, it's something I don't necessarily want to see in all or even most stories, but the way Oda does this just works so perfectly for what One Piece is. It's a very specific thing done in a very specific way and he knocks it out of the park. I usually tend toward darker/""darker"" stuff but this is something I actually love about One Piece, which I think is a testament to how good it is. Drags me out of my usual preferences completely.

The reason Mihawk and Zeff knew about their relationship is because they both know Garps full name, Monkey D Garp, since he's a famous marine vice-admiral. Luffy is not shy about sharing his full name.

Arlong park and Nami herself sold me to one piece. Money is survival for nami, up until now for me. Nami is a character who's very obsessed with money and I think many people tainted that image in a bad way because whenever her crew borrow money from her, she would increase the rate. However, Nami never use their money for herself. She's the one who manage their money, budgets it, so that they will get all important things they need for their daily voyages. So that they have enough foods, drinks, and stocks for a month or two. And Oda himself said that she gives them allowance so that they can buy their needs. Her backstory made me bawl, and everytime I stumble into reactors videos about nami's backstory, the pain is coming back and I'm crying again. Emily Rudd pulled that scene effortlessly. She literally hurts herself using the fake knife. Hats off to our girl, Emily. Nami is my fave female character in this show, her lack of physical prowess doesn't mean she's overall weak. Her abilities and capabilities is her strength. Nami is part of the crew’s support team, and she can take average or more than average opponents, which is good enough.

11:05 GUYS, please. If you didn t guess already, Garp is a vice-admiral and one that chose NOT to get the promotion, meaning that it s much stronger than a vice-admiral. The script is giving him so much importance, that means that he is something big in the Marines. Thus, if you know a big shot name like Monkey D. Garp then you know how to guess his relatives aftar that name. Zeff knew Garp, hell... everybody knows Garp. It s like in our world, If you hear someone named KArdashian or Armstrong, u think of a connection already, don t you ?

I hate that you watch this show. Even after the vote, there were more people who were against you starting this series before the anime came out. But you didn't care what the audience thought and you started watching it anyway. It pains me to see how weak the live action scenes are. Anime cannot be reproduced with the same quality in real life. Anime and TV series have completely different moods. For example Shanks. This is a character who was shown in a maximum of 5 episodes out of 1000+ episodes, the favorite of most fans of this story. In just 5+ episodes it gets viewers interested. But Shanks in the Live action... From Shanks he only has his name. That's putting it mildly.
