So what I got from the whole thing with Garp, is that he is a very proud man and proud marine. His intent WAS to capture Luffy and make him a marine. But the scene where Luffy's smile reminded him of Gol.D.Rogers - it wasn't explored much but Rogers and Garp WERE good friends - he decided then and there to let Luffy go. But being too proud, played the whole thing off as a test. You don’t send Mihawk after Luffy for example if it was a test the whole time - Luffy at this time would have NO shot, and only escaped because Mihawk took a shine to the kid.

I'm fine with reactors giving those a chance .. but nah with a few exception you can immediately feel and spot the fillers . Hell like said above , there is even a smaller canon arc that felt like filler (but utrns out it's extended via filler content as well) . That said , imo , people that can stand Naruto and Bleach fillers (among the worst) , should be fine with the OP ones ... there aren't that many . The show is over a 1000 eps , and still got less amount of filler arcs and episodes than Naruto vanilla and Shippuden

@@ZarathosDaimaoh the problem with the one piece anime is how much it extends itself though, arcs like Dressrosa had no business being LONGER than it was in the manga, and this isnt from actual filler, its from stretching what was already there to an unbelievable amount I never recommend anyone the anime outside of watching clips here and there after reading the manga, it screws far too much with the storyline and really hurts it once the anime gets stretchier post timeskip It's up to the point where i whole heartedly believe the anime might be one of the worst ways to experience the story, it has absolutely no respect for your time.

If you want a little tip regarding memory: when watching something, we have the ability to listen but not really pay attention to what we are doing. So we have to make our brain work, and ask questions: who are the new characters? What are their roles? What was the summary of the episode? (this is a self job, not a couple job. And those are not the only questions you can ask). And before every new episode, you should read those notes. This also work for classes, but it might be too late for that ;) Welcome in the One Piece world!

The author himself said that he originally never intended a live-action since it was technically impossible, but that technical improvements made it possible so he eventually started to look around because he wanted to share his story with people who are not into manga and anime. Pessimists might say he just wants to sell more volumes and get more royalties, but the guy has already earned more money than he knows to spend, especially with his crazy workaholic lifestyle. As for the anime... remember that that too is an adaptation. Especially early on, it has its own fair share of deviations compared to the manga. It might be fun to see if you can figure out which adaptation is closer to canon for the various parts you end up reexperiencing! 🙂 In regards to One Pace, I probably wouldn't recommend it. It accomplishes a relatively close-to-manga experience, but that doesn't make it good. Just the polish of the soundtracks getting interrupted by cuts is already frustrating to me personally, and that still ignores the various way Toei likes to weave in filler bits that might make such cuts awkward or hard to pull off. One of the anime's biggest strengths (especially when they bothered to do so) was that they could afford to show a lot more crew bonding moments in the way the live action does. While the manga obviously does it to some degree itself, it simply cannot compare in that regard since pages are far more limiting than runtime when it comes to telling a story. Edit: You skimmed 10% of the characters? Kinda? You know the essence of the characters, and they don't really change much; they just grow. But honestly, the material you've seen is probably closer to 3-5%. If you turned all of One Piece's characters into a graph based on who they know or interact with, you'd get the craziest tangled messy web of nonsense imaginable even if you leave the lead characters out of it.
@MalkuthSephira

It's so weird to me to think that there are people who legit think Oda is just trying to make more money. He doesn't need to, he's doing great on that and while I'm sure it's rad to have a ton of money, it's always been clear that he wasn't particularly motivated by that. You don't make one of the most massive and resonant epics of all time, about dreams and striving to achieve things that are way more meaningful than just riches, because you're just a money-grubber. A story with this heart can only come from someone who has that much heart himself.
@miguelgonzalez6495

@MalkuthSephira Oda’s a very private person. Usually those that want money, want fame too. Not Oda. He has genuine love for his work and it shows. He said he wanted to create a story he would love as a kid.

Netflix is known for not paying Japanese, so Oda would not have received much money. Japanese animation companies have criticized Netflix, saying that Netflix condescendingly asks them to make animation for low pay. If it is different in the US, it must be racism against Asia.
@Aviertje
@Aviertje 11 ай бұрын
@@shirankedo-ib8uv I can't claim to know anything about Netflix or how they are supposedly racist against the whole of Asia, but I do want to point out that Oda is the one with all the power in their relationship. If he didn't like the terms of the deal Netflix offered him, he wouldn't have taken it. He most certainly didn't in the 20ish years prior during which he's been approached by companies wishing to do live action adaptations more than once! Similarly, if companies pay low wages to Japanese animators, then those animators need to unionize and perhaps even campaign for better legal protections in regards to minimum wage and benefits. But even that is somewhat silly, because it is absurd to go into a contract if you don't think you are being paid enough for your work compared to others doing similar work. Finally, I do want to point out the one thing I do know about Japanese culture. You are very hard-working, and this is admirable. But it it crazy that companies expect office workers to sleep underneath their desks and do all sorts of crazy hours. I have read articles on how this has led to suicides and other loss of life in the past. So sure, by all means, hate on Netflix if they are exceeding certain boundaries, but please also pay attention to the things they might be doing better. Netflix nor the world hate Asia. Don't be so quick to judge and jump on the 'it is racism' bandwagon, because it is a very toxic mentality that will close your mind to the better sides of others. Or, if you prefer a more scientific comparison, lean into Hanlon's razor: "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity." As humans are predisposed into looking after our own interests, but it is only for a small group of people that see putting others down as a way to improve their own interests. Food for thought. 🙂

Hey! I’m a huge One Piece fan and I loved your One Piece Live Action reaction so much that I had to subscribe and support when I heard that you were going to do a live reaction of the anime. I have a suggestion of how to tackle this behemoth of a project. I suggest that you read the manga (offscreen) and do a poll of where to start and stop for each arc including a poll for what episodes within that arc to do a live reaction to. Then I would do a video analysis of each arc where you can insert snippets of your love reactions. The reason this method might be best is because the One Piece manga has these things called cover stories and SBS where Oda draws and talks about canon material that are not in the anime but very important to the story. Also, if you do 4 videos every week, then it will take you roughly 5 1/2 years whereas this method will take about 1 to 2 years.

this first season actually covers a whole saga. each island is, essentially, its own arc with its own beginning middle and end. in the live action they grouped episodes together to cover each arc within the East Blue Saga. arcs will have their own stories that are mostly self contained, while sagas have a main plot threat that connects these arcs together beyond the main one of finding the One Piece. the next season will cover the next Saga which spans about 120 chapters, compared to this seasons ~100 chapters. i won't spoil the anime, but there are plenty of changes. almost all of them are good changes, except for one for me that deals with "the nami scene". once you get there you can see they made one big change that actually undercuts that scene a bit. still works and hits you hard in the live action, but it really does steam roll you in the original story. I do like One Pace, but don't recommend it for first time viewing really. it is great for rewatching but some of the cuts are... questionable. mostly it undercuts a lot of jokes, gags, and the humor of the show in order to keep a certain pace. some emotional moments are also hurried along where making it sit for an extra few seconds makes more of an impact. idk if they do this cut specifically, but i remember some cuts that are akin to cutting out the pause of nami crying before asking for Luffy's help, or the pause on luffy's face before he moves to put his hat on her head. sometimes emotions need to sit on the screen for a bit and One Pace will sometimes bulldoze through them in the interest of saving time.

If you prefer QUALITY over quantity, I do NOT recommend One Pace. People say it's mostly for rewatchers. There is a high chance you might miss a lot of details and nuances and a lot of bonding moments for the crew because a lot of scenes get cut out to save time. If you want to fully enjoy the experience, you can just get a list of filler episodes and avoid those to save time. Again, One Pace may shorten a lot of the good stuff for the sake of 'catching up' to the latest episodes. Also, cutting out the op and ed shortens the episodes to 16-17 minutes anyways. I recommend avoiding watching the op and ed for the time being because it also contains character spoilers.

Garp was really just testing Luffy, which is kind of altered from the anime and manga itself. Oda-sensei had to be persuaded into keeping this storyline. I think the reason was they weren’t exactly sure if they could keep OPLA going for the amount of time the anime had been going, and the actors aren’t cartoon characters, they eventually age up as the story goes and they might even end up not fitting the initial roles they were given during season 1, so I guess they wanted to get that out of the way. Storywise, I think it blended well with the question why are the marines chasing a non-threatening pirate at the beginning, cause I saw some first time watchers asking that question until they got to the end. It also makes sense, in this storyline, that Garp is simply preparing his grandson for what lies ahead in the Grandline. Cause if Luffy can’t handle Garp when the old man’s still pulling his punches (yes, this is not Garp’s full strength, not even mid-strength), then Luffy would jot at all survive the journey to fulfill his dream. At the same time, he was testing Koby, and Helmeppo was just pulled along and eventually Garp got to see his potential as well. So what we saw here is basically Garp testing Luffy’s determination and drive to fulfill his dream, and assessing if Koby and Helmeppo have a code and the potential to be worthy of being marines.

Honestly , bare some details here and there , Garp behaved like his anime self .... the main difference is that the Live Action does not feature the anime and manga's brand of humor , especially comedic violence . In anime you can show Garp giving out some tough and physical love , you laugh at the scene , he can randomly burst into laughter and destroy things , he won't look crazy . It's the same way you can't have Nami settle disputes with the crew with her beating them up in the LA . It would not work the same in a live action , and they were clever enough to use that to their advantage , to misdirect and make Garp looks like a villain until the "test" reveal.

3:13 "Why do they look like stormtroopers?" In the anime, they basically are just stormtroopers. Just faceless nameless grunts that hunt down pirates and are super-easy to take down for characters of the Straw Hats' caliber. 11:28 I'll tell you right now, Gold Roger is not Luffy's dad or Garp's son. Luffy's dad is no less insane than anyone else in their family, though.

I absolutely love the live action and don't have many negatives to say about the show at all but the anime/manga just have had that extra time to explain everything that much more and it makes everything hit so much more! Highly recommend even watching or reading in your own time ❤

One Piece is a masterpiece modern writing in this era. You wouldnt want to miss this. It's not just a common mangga anymore. It is an Epic Literature work. It will go down in history as one of the greatest writting ever written. Mark my words. For start, it is already has its name in Guiness World Record, and recieved numerous awards. The writter Eichiro Oda himself has been voted as one of the 10 most Genius and most influental person in Japan as per 2023. It's never too late if you want to start now. I'm just saying.

I dont think it was a test the whole time, I think that Garp really wanted to catch him, but also wanted to make sure that Luffy was like tough enough for the Grand Line, especially after that conversation with Zeff. Great reaction!

Of course if you are used to the pace of the netflix show then sometimes the anime will feel a bit slow but im sure you will still like it because the story itself is just.. honestly its just so wonderful.. 😭 I personally would not recommend One Pace since they dont just cut out fillers but also important scenes, moments and conversations and often the cuts are just weird and make scenes feel unnatural but if thats what you decide to go for then so be it.. i'll follow you guys one way or another ;)

ive watched the entirety of One Pace and ive noticed a few cuts from when i watched the original series (3 times) but they dont delete important scenes because they are basing it on the manga itself and the editing quality has improved over the years so I highly recommend One Pace as it currently is. They even edit the timing of the voices and bgms so that it wont be awkward. recently they edited the animation itself, an example of it is the design of marco, he was animated with a black hair early in the series and the One Pace team corrected that.

@@noypangan5 finally someone who actually understands how One Pace works. They put the actual scenes from the manga and cut non manga interactions, no matter how funny or important it is to anime watchers, if it's not in the manga it's gonna get cut.

As an OP fan, the pacing is quite slow. but once you get hooked by the story, a thousand episode is not enough. Its like you want to know the ending but not wanting it to end. One Pace could be a good option for first timer but you might want to consider watching the uncut. Oda likes putting easter eggs/foreshadowing that you might miss and will make sense in the future episodes.

So... I recommend watching some of the big moments in the anime form till this point, so that you get a feeling for how the anime is made. Also, there's an AMV that is non spoilery called "the breathtaking world of One Piece" or something along those lines that is a nice introduction of what you should expect from the world itself

As Oda-Sensei (One Piece's Author) said: "I've been working with Tomorrow Studios and Netflix for quite some time now. Even though they understand each of the characters, we obviously come from very different cultures so, when it comes to entertainment, we have different codes, skill sets, and aims. Sometimes it could be frustrating for both sides. It felt like, "We're all trying to get to the same place so how come we're not on the same wavelength?" There was even a time when I thought, "Is a foreign production even possible?" Now, this might seem like it's coming out of nowhere but... we've been hard at work this entire time. And now, each and every entity involved is working in sync. We're finally here! Considering my expected life span, I believe this is the last chance to bring One Piece to the entire world. If we're going to do it, I want to be able to supervise things while I'm still active. That's why I agreed to the live-action adaptation of One Piece back in 2016. Since then, Netflix has committed enormous resources to the production. It was announced that the show will launch in 2023, but they've promised that we won't launch it until I'm satisfied. The entire cast and crew, spanning various countries, are brimming with love for One Piece!! They're burning with passion, and I've reminded everyone involved that this should be fun."

One piece is the "piece" of fiction that has made me feel the most emotions. The live action won't be able to cover it all (or in something between 30 years and a century 😅). So if you loved the feelings you got watching this, without a doubt, you'll love the original one piece. Wish you the best experience

♦♦I do NOT want to spoil to you anything from the anime so, if one of you are reading this STOP and have someone review. If you end up deleting this message, at least inform Ron of my concern in your own way ♦♦ Near the half of the anime, there is a time skip. After that, the animation get significantly better and so does the character design. When Ron decides to get a tattoo of a character, I recommend him to wait until at least after the time skip to get it (preferably after they caught up). I say this because I don't want him to get a tattoo and then finds out the other "versions" of them, after, probably he has run out of space. Also, if he looks up ideas for tattoos, he will 100% get spoiled.

Few things to recommend/note... - You can watch One Pace if you ABSOLUTELY feel the need to shorten your watch time though I don't recommend it since some fillers actually adds things to the anime which One Pace completely removes. Some jokes and emotions are cut bc One Pace feels the need to make the anime seem quicker. So yeah, even though the anime might feel long I recommend you watch it the way it's supposed to. But if you really REALLY don't have time then I do recommend you watch One Pace Only after like 500 episodes. Because around that time is where the pacing for the anime really starts to get slow. - Please, no matter what happens PLEASE watch the subbed version. The English dub for One Piece is really not that good when it comes to casting. Especially Luffy's VA doesn't match his character at all. It'll honestly worsen your experience of his character. Luffy is the heart of One Piece and if he's unlikable like he is in the English dub, you'll have a hard time watching it. Plus the entire cast just sounds like Dragon ball characters. They try little to no effort to make them feel like One Piece characters. - And finally, Idk who you talked to about One Piece ending in 3 years but rest assure it's not lol. That's just people speculating it. In the manga we've just recently started the final Saga and this Saga might last for at least another 5 - 8 years. One Piece is no where close to ending. Oda said he would LIKE to end it in the next 3 years which he said that last year which makes no sense to where we're at right now currently in the manga. One Piece is not ending in the next 2 yrs. lmao If I had to speculate, I would say maybe at least another 7 more years. So by late 2030/31 (early) probably.

one big difference between the anime/manga and the live action is Vice Admiral Garp does not appear this early, maybe Garp should appear like about the end of season 4 of the live action.
