Garp's entry and motivations in to Hachinosu is almost exactly Luffy's motivations for going to Marine Ford. Event the events unfold a similar way. Against all odds and seeing it impossible to approach head on, he drops head first in to the centre of battle atop a flying ship, ready to strike at a moment's notice. Despite all we know and have seen of their might, the numbers and abilities of his opponents is too much but is able to stand his own, anyway. But here, in a moment of desperation, one of them steps up to defend the honour of someone they believe is worthy of their heroism. But it was a trap. The saviour here is the one to jump in front of the executioner, saving his dear one's life at the cost of his own. Injured and unable to fight, his dear one is carried off the battlefield to safety while the other, having found combat in someone they've known for a long time during this conflict, struggles to see the light due to the heartless actions of the executioner, but can smile knowing that, at least, they have succeeded.
