Great day in the wood yard except for the large branch that fell from the top of a cottonwood tree and struck the Wolfe Ridge 35 SHO Box Wedge breaking parts of the motor.
Full disclosure. This episode is a little all over because it was mostly recorded on July 13 & 14, 2024. I thought about putting my thoughts about the 13th in this video, but decided against it. Which is impart why this is video is coming out almost 3 weeks after the fact. You folks don’t come here for politics. Everyone on this channel in the comments has been very respectful and I hope it stays that way. I enjoy answering questions, and replying to comments of all kinds.
That said I hope you have an awesome day Around the Yard! Look for Friday’s video for the repair of the Wolfe Ridge.
Brent
Going forward videos to the best of my ability will release on Friday night of every week. If I have a large project or lots of content that week I may choose to upload MWF in order to get it out to you. Glad you’re watching and enjoying this journey.

Yes Sir, new plan until this one comes down is working near the shed. It’s more full sun in mid morning but a heck of a lot safer. I’m pretty sure I’d never see or hear a beach coming if I were running any equipment under it.

Glad to know you and your family members weren’t struck by those huge limbs. Looks like you’re really liking the 2-4 wedge. Have a great week ahead sir.

Thank you Sir. Yes, the 2x4 wedge is quickly becoming my favorite, I haven’t swapped back in the standard box wedge yet. I think I’ll still keep it around for mobile splitting jobs (if I ever have time for them). Ironically the big stuff usually comes down in the middle of the day or night when no one is around. So far we’ve been lucky 🍀 but the tree is coming down, that one and the willow for sure. I need to go around the yard this weekend and mark dead trees that we can take this fall, after it cools off and there are less bugs to deal with. Horse flies are thick right now and it makes it quite miserable to be just walking around.

Yeah I know. Could have been a lot worse. Wolfe Ridge was very helpful. They were able to give me my model number very quickly so I could order parts. Top notch folks there. Hope you have a great weekend Around the Yard Del!

Yeah they are… One of these days I’ll show them who’s boss in this woodyard. Know anyone that wants 250 Tons of Willow & Cottonwood? Any uses for it? Have a great day Around the Yard Heath!

You gotta get some sort of shelter over it. I had a similar situation with a battery that destroyed by a fallen branch. I’m Glad it wasn’t too serious.

Dang it! My cottonwood is always dropping branches also!!

I’ve been thinking it’s time for them to go, for a while now. It even drops big branches, like sixteen inchers. I feel fortunate I guess that it wasn’t something more expensive sitting under it. The real stupid thing was, I put away everything else in the barn and left the Wolfe Ridge sit because it was buried in splits and what not. I even remember looking at the tree and going drop branches over there, not here. 😆

Hey Brent,…I’m just thankful that no one was hurt when this happened. It’s usually easier and cheaper to fix small damages to our machines, than our bodies. I would also like to suggest that you could set your totes on two pallets to stack into. That way you won’t have to bend as much when stacking your wood. I’m 6’6” and that’s what I do,…and always suggest it when I see others stacking their wood.

I’m guessing the next video will be taking down a Cotten wood tree . I’ve got a dead pine within striking distance of my splitter but it’s not on my property . I’m thinking I best take care of it before it can cause a problem .

That’s the plan, though I doubt it will be the next video, hoping to get the trees down before fall though. Any ideas on how to use 250 tons of Willow and Cottonwood? Have a great day Around the Yard Phil & Karen!

Found an online retailer that stocks a lot of Honda and other small engine parts. Similar experience to modifying and building mini bikes and go karts as a kid. Worked out pretty well, update coming tonight. Thanks for stopping by John. Have a great weekend Around the Yard! Brent

I know right, although with the cottonwood, live and dead branches drop, almost as frequently. I think it’s just a really poor tree choice, great for quick shade but terrible in every other way, especially the cotton in June, it’s almost plowable with six of them. Yuck! On triple digits… we have had those yet, but there is still time. We had low to mid 90’s and 60-70% humidity. Hope you have a great weekend Around the Yard! Take care, Brent

They are great for the shade, but they have worn out their welcome. Time for them all to go and get busy on planting the replacements. The sad part is they are 60 years old, if the same spots had been planted with some other species they’d be beautiful mature trees 🌳 🌲 hitting their half life stride. Unless they were Ash trees, Elm, Oak, Pines… those would all be dying or dead by now. Maybe not the oaks but there is Oak wilt nearby and I have a couple that are dead or dying in the yard. Can’t win, thinking about putting maple 🍁 and evergreens 🌲 together.
