Sounds like you want Iran and Russia to be the world's main powers leaving the US to be a "has-been" power like Spain or the Qin Dynasty. Do you think Iran and Russia would serve your best interests? We spend 1% of GDP on Israel to keep a military and intelligence presence in the middle east (where terrorists are spawned) and 0.35% on Ukraine. Failure to address climate change will cost much more. The U.S. has sustained 376 weather and climate disasters. The cumulative cost for these 376 events exceeds $2.660 trillion. You are penny wise and pound foolish.

I'm in the US and I don't understand why ppl would wanna stay in these areas where they know they get hit hard by hurricanes and have a chance to leave and don't. I know how bad a storm can give I'm in SC now but I'm from NJ and was there during Superstorm Sandy and that storm scared the crap out of me living in a tiny house at the time and the wind was hitting so hard I thought house would fall my trees in the backyard the tops of the trees were basically touching the grass. And my birthplace was flooded I've never seen that before. This one was rough but I'm thankful my area didn't flood or get the tornadoes the warnings kept warning about

Here's the scenario. Forests make watersheds. When a region experiences steady human growth over the years, forest watersheds are removed in favor of bigger roads, residential building and retail and service sector expansion. The land looses it's ability to hold water and release it gradually through small creeks and very importantly subsurface ground water recharge. Instead, we lose valuable water to rapid flooding and overland sheet flow. Classic example is the low country of SC around Blufton. But the whole region is being adversely affected. The Water God says to rebuild the great forests.

What’s so weird is none of this damage is due to the hurricane. The wind wasn’t that strong and not what damaged everything. It barely rained so it wasn’t due to heavy rainfall either. The ONLY thing that caused all this damage was the increased water levels. If you look at TGH hospital that was surrounded by flooding. They used water walls and they were completely safe.

The largest EVER were Cat 3s and way back in 1938 and again in 1954. Cat 3s are no big deal. I stay for a Cat 3, I leave if it's anything bigger.

In the aftermath of Helene, benefit from my misfortune and do not compound your problems: beware of an outfit called “Samaritan’s Purse’. These people showed up in my neighborhood in NJ after Superstorm Sandy offering to help. I was away at the time and my wife let them in. The end result was over $10,000 in property stolen over a couple day period. SP disclaimed any liability and said they really didn’t do any background on their volunteers and didn’t even have records of who they were. So proceed accordingly.
