I was at the vet, with my cat in the carrier. A dog (off leash) kept coming over to us and poking its head near the carrier. I put the carrier on my lap and asked the owner to keep her dog away. She replies "my dog is likes cats, we have several cats and dogs in our home". I replied that's great, but my cat doesn't live with any dogs, and your dog is freaking him out. Had to say it twice - she just wouldn't get it, acted like I'm the one being rude. People like her (and Anita the plaintiff) create cases like this.

My dog loves other dogs. She lives with 2 other small dogs (shes a 70lb plott hound) and we dog and cat sit often for family and friends. She loves to play and hike with other dogs too. But thanks to a person like Anita with a "friendly" off leash dog without any recall who attacked her she became leash reactive. This was with me saying "call your dog" when it came too close and got the "shes friendly" then ir literally attacked my dog. I had to beat the shit out of this dog to get it to release mine too. And they were just like "sorry". It's taken a whole year to get her to not freak out (with a street length in between) when she sees a dog when she's leashed. If she's off leash in our yard or someone elses yard and meets other dogs, shes great. No issues. But she's traumatized now. She hates being on leash when other dogs are coming towards her. Exactly! The amount of sheer stupidity from the plaintiffs and their witness is astounding. What these people need to understand is that at the end of the day dogs will be dogs and it only takes a split second for a dog fight to happen, regardless of how "friendly" one of the dogs may be. Friendly dogs fight one another all the time, and even more so when there is an aggressive dog involved. Dogs will default to their primary instincts when threatened and the defendant warned the plaintiff and the plaintiff chose to ignore the severity of the situation. It is this type of behavior, ignorance and negligence that will get other dogs hurt, sometimes killed, and other times wrongfully put down.

This just happened to me at the beach the other day. Some guy had his two dogs off leash and one of them (a pit mix) came right up to one of my sons who was just playing in the sand. I asked him if he would please call his dog back, and this douche had the nerve to ask me why with an attitude. You don't know if I or my kids have trauma from being bitten before, or are allergic, or just don't like dogs. I feel it goes both ways, you know? I was an obedience ring steward at a big AKC show when I suddenly heard a commotion break out right behind me. Just outside the ring a Great Dane owner and a Sheltie owner had accidentally let their dogs get too close and the Sheltie was airborne in the Dane's mouth. Thankfully it only took a couple of seconds to separate them, but the Sheltie owner got bitten clear through his hand - by his OWN panicked Sheltie! We the show committee and the AKC Representative reviewed the footage someone had taken of the incident, and it turns out the Dane owner had tripped over a support wire, dropping the Dane's leash. It was a no fault situation. We always have a veterinarian on site in case something happens, and thankfully the Sheltie turned out to be OK, just had a few scuffs and bruises. At shows fights are rare because we know our big male dogs don't like each other, especially in the presence of in heat females, so we give each other plenty of space and turn our dogs away from each other if we see a stare down starting. This is why we don't allow pet dogs owned by the public on site. They are the ones who cause the trouble by thinking their dog can be friends with everybody. The worst dogfights I've ever seen, with multiple combatants, were in PetSmart in Houston. Pet owners didn't understand the capabilities of their dogs or the dogs of others. I watched one intense brawl consisting of two Chows and one Rottie roll up one aisle and down another. It took half a dozen people to get them away from each other. Miraculously no one was bitten doing this. The public needs to get a lot smarter.

Great ruling by the judge as usual! The defendant's testimony also seemed genuine. He recanted the events with clarity- that one picture was also a good piece of evidence. @notachance12358 Жыл бұрын
I am amazed how many people commented that the guy should not be walking his dog in the public. This shows pure ignorance how dogs behave and how irresponsible people are. Each owner should start by being reaponsible for their dog and learn how to handle the dog. Even if the dog is the best behaved and sweetest dog in the world, it can still be triggered by litteraly any event at a given time, place, intensity etc. This is where the owner's responsibility lies - you should be able to handle your dog, recognize cues and recognize if the dog is feeling anxious or unsure as they will 99% react. And when you do see that potentially the outcome will be unfavourable, speak up as the man did, and warn people. The other party should also listen and take caution. Same thing goes with kids who start running towards a dog just because it is cute - imagine you had 10 giants running towards you that you have never seen in your life; you would be anxious and scared, too. Majority of dogs will retrieve and start backing away but if they feel they have no escape, they will attack to defenf themselves - this is a natural behaviour.

I have to say, two of my "pet peeves"😁 are those extended leads when you are around other people and dogs, and not listening to owners saying "my dog is NOT friendly". My dog is a sweetheart, she never barks, she has lots of doggo friends, but she is a rescue dog, and has some anxiety issues. I'm all over it and completely tuned into her, so I can pre-empt accordingly, as this man did. Mine hates dogs that come bounding out in a hurry amd rush at her with bad doggo manners. She will accommodate, the wide circle, the tentative sniff, the act slightly disinterested, or the bow of "would you like to play with me ?" all with a wagging tale. What she wont do, is the run at her face, the aggressive stance, the charge, and the im going to stick my nose up your clacker. I get it 🤷🏼♀️😆. She prefers the slow and steady approach 😆 and then a friend is a friend for always with her. I have to compensate all the time for badly mannered people and their badly mannered dogs, and I'm prepared to do that to a point, but...... when the dog AND the owner have no clue, it usually doesnt go well for at least one of them. 🤦🏼♀️😆
