She is never caught off guard. She graciously laughed with Des at the incredible thought that Madge might ever go parachuting, then continued dominating the proceedings. Unlike some, she can let a person get a word in edgeways, to her credit. Neat little comment of his though.

one of the rare brilliant minds in show biz. not afraid to say what he means and never vulgar inspite of everything ....Recently on australian tv, he spoke out about vulgarity on tv and people in general gave him a slew of angry reponses...CANT UNDERSTAND THAT. He probably meant openly dirty knob jokes like Jimmy Carr does: whereas his thing is innuendo, like "I was buffing my husband's obelisk"! (Michael Parkinson interview).

I’ve never seen Dame Edna genuinely laugh at her interviewer’s quip. Des is a great straight man but here Dame Edna chortles away at his spontaneous ‘parachute’ line. I miss this kind of interview that no one does anymore, the guests today are just foils for the host, on Des’s show he played the straight guy to set them up or a generous host asking great but not intrusive questions.

Sadly it’s KZbin, TikTok, Instagram etc that have caused the death of the golden era of TV & entertainment. It appears that most people would rather watch a video of a nobody with millions of followers going to KFC than anyone with any real talent.

Barry Humphries, a born performer, out of dreary, tedious Melbourne, Shakespearean actor off Shaftesbury Ave., and subsequente automatic alcoholic, a consumate performer as I was saying...also somebody who is ad libbing most of the time and applying his masterful command of the english language...I wish ther was something negative to say about him n ow.
