... Magnificent!...leaves me speechless with my heart in my mouth. Everything is working superbly well for her here, ... the beauty of tone, seamless legato, the easy emission of tone, the enormous size of the voice, and its flexibility and the precision of the colorature, so perfectly articulated yet always expressive, etc., etc...and to top it off, an absolutely hair-raising Eflat in alt!

No one sings Puritani more beautifully, and her melancholy tone so fits the sad cantilena. And of course the cabaletta is dazzling as always.

Probably the most spectacular version of this I've ever heard. The voice sounds fresher than the Met performance captured the same year. By 1987, when I heard her sing this at a concert in Glasgow, she was singing the cabaletta down a tone but it was still astonishing. If anything the voice was even richer using the mezzoish quality with which she'd started.

there is a complete puritani w dame joan and pav of their legendary puritani on ytube. have you heard it? another gem is a 1972 complete rigoletto at the met that really shows joan's voice in proportion to her great colleagues pav and s. milnes. dame joan still have complete control of all her top notes, as evident @ 8:41 she nails a flawless high e flat.

@@ahogbin2644 no here it was an E natural. Play it on a piano please. E flat is the most sang note. Perhaps its a distorcion. But it sounds fantastic, didn't it?
