In March of 1966 Dame Shirley Bassey returned to New Zealand for her second tour. Two cities were selected, Auckland on March 21 and Wellington on March 22, Harry Miller the NZ born Australasian promoter bringing DSB back to NZ for 2 sell out shows both nights.
The reviews were ecstatic and the crowds roared their approval. Apart from the hit songs DSB delivered, DSB sung You Can Have Him, written by Irving Berlin in 1949 for the musical Miss Liberty.
DSB had performed the song on her Live At The Pigalle album in September 1965 and shortly after her NZ tour DSB recorded it for her I've Got A Song For You album of 1966. DSB also included this song on her Live at Talk Of The Town album in 1970. DSB had performed the song on her February 1966 BBC TV special and her April 1967 US TV special with Count Basie called Something Special.

I have been collecting Dame Shirley for over 50 years and have digitised my entire collection by date from newspapers, magazines, photos, programs, sheet music and of course the music.
I hope this series of videos will help tell Dame Shirley's story in a lineal way for fans new and old.
As a child whenever I found a photo of Dame Shirley I would wonder what the story behind the picture was, and I still do.
I would cut out news clippings and put together multiple scrapbooks,
then the internet came along and an explosion of knowledge. Now I know some of the stories behind many of the photos and hope you get enjoyment in finding these stories too.
If you have an image from this year that I haven't included, please consider scanning it and sharing it. If you have a newspaper clipping, review or any other item that would expand the story please let me know. Dating items is a tricky process but I have tried as best I can to get the timeline correct.
I hope you enjoy this series which will be ongoing, so please subscribe for new postings to come.
