Dame Shirley Bassey began her biggest tour of New Zealand in Christchurch on March 25th 1968. Performing at the Pan Pacific festival which was held in an old aircraft hangar they called the Festival Hall, somehow DSB managed to make this dubious venue a glamorous occasion that transported its participants.
Next the Wellington Town Hall where DSB got them out of their seats to a rousing finish.
In Auckland for the third time DSB gave a press conference which provided many of the unique images in this video. Strangely the Auckland Town Hall came in for a drubbing by DSB, it's a beautiful building but is much better air conditioned now.
Finally DSB went to Hamilton to play the Founders Theatre, where a mutual admiration society was formed between performer and audience.
The three songs for this edition were all performed on this tour. Let Me Sing And I'm Happy and Kiss Me Honey Honey Kiss Me, which was reworked for the Shirley Means Bassey album, and the updated 60s version of As I Love You that would appear on the Does Anybody Miss Me album.
I hope you enjoy this edition of the Dame Shirley Bassey Archives, best wishes, Carl.

I have been collecting Dame Shirley for over 50 years and have digitised my entire collection by date from newspapers, magazines, photos, programs, sheet music and of course the music.
I hope this series of videos will help tell Dame Shirley's story in a lineal way for fans new and old.
As a child whenever I found a photo of Dame Shirley I would wonder what the story behind the picture was, and I still do.
I would cut out news clippings and put together multiple scrapbooks,
then the internet came along and an explosion of knowledge. Now I know some of the stories behind many of the photos and hope you get enjoyment in finding these stories too.
If you have an image from this year that I haven't included, please consider scanning it and sharing it. If you have a newspaper clipping, review or any other item that would expand the story please let me know. Dating items is a tricky process but I have tried as best I can to get the timeline correct.
I hope you enjoy this series which will be ongoing, so please subscribe for new postings to come.
