"Living It Up" Lyrics:
My daddy made it out!
Out of the ghetto
Believe in your dreams, believe you me
Don’t let go
We’re living it up!
We’re having a good time baby
I was born uptown
I’m the ghetto dream
Now ain’t life crazy?
My daddy made it out!
Out of the ghetto
Believe in your dreams, believe you me
Don’t let go
We’re living it up!
We’re having a good time baby
I was born uptown
I’m the ghetto dream
Now don’t be lazy
Trench Town have a grandson
Growing up to be somebody
Gong to the Zilly
Yo mi flow phenomenally
I am the kind of thing that doesn’t happen normally
I’m a one in a zillion
Yo Doggy if you want some
Good life finally
Perhaps change your night time hobby
Come out of the old crime lobby
And benefit from your wisdom
Mi a gwan live it up life is better than great
Every other day mi voice a dozen dub plate
Put in our hustle we nuh sit down and wait
Tuff up unnu muscle now is never too late
Fi gwan celebrate inna rich people place
The little Rasta Man from Trench Town fly the gate
With food inna plate and drinks inna crate
We sing till the neighbor dem wake
My daddy made it out!
Out of the ghetto
Believe in your dreams, believe you me
Don’t let go
We’re living it up!
We’re having a good time baby
I was born uptown
I’m the ghetto dream
Now ain’t life crazy?
My daddy made it out!
Out of the ghetto
Believe in your dreams, believe you me
Don’t let go
We’re living it up!
We’re having a good time baby
I was born uptown
I’m the ghetto dream
Now don’t be lazy
Uptown Jamaica born and raised
On the playground is where I spent most of my days
Burning Babylon and dem dirty ways
While watching all the rich kids gone a stay
Uptown Jamaica born and raised
On the playground is where I spent most of my days
Big city life Kingston and Mo-Bay
And if you think mi sell out tell dem ain’t no way
So... Live it up Trench Town to Rema
Riverton, South Side to Jungle
Sherlock, Garden, to Spangler’s,
Payne Land, Three Mile to Back-to,
Portmore, Seaview, Spanish Town,
Nine Mile, Browns Town to Flankers,
Falmouth, West Side, Orange Hill
My daddy made it out!
Out of the ghetto
Believe in your dreams, believe you me
Don’t let go
We’re living it up!
We’re having a good time baby
I was born uptown
I’m the ghetto dream
Now ain’t life crazy?
My daddy made it out!
Out of the ghetto
Believe in your dreams, believe you me
Don’t let go
We’re living it up!
We’re having a good time baby
I was born uptown
I’m the ghetto dream
Now don’t be lazy

Reporter taking an interview to Bob Marley, I think it was 1978 or maybe 1979... Rep. : "Bob are you a rich man?" Bob : "When you say rich, what do you mean"? Rep: " Do you have a lot of money, or a lot of possesions?" Bob : " Possesions make you rich? I don't have this kind of richness... My richness is life...Forever".

@@Godismyguide1980 I don't assume to know anything about anything, can't presume what the beautiful human being that was Bob Marley would've felt about this piece, I am happy for them because they look happy, I can tell you the symbolism displayed here has nothing to do with Bob Marley's message though and so, for me, it feels like a perversion to say that it does.

@@crrhough they are not entitled to help anybody. They don't need to. It's their money and they decide what to do with it. There are many famous people who help the community without anybody knowing. They do it cuz they want to not because they want everybody know they help. The Marley's fame is the only reason Jamaican rastfari culture has been exposed to the world and its why Jamaica gets a lot of tourists. Them being in the position they are in right now is more helpful to the Rastafarian culture and Jamaica as a country than any of you hating jealous pieces of whining scumbags.

kxng man butt I get your point but I thought Christ was anti suicide, so that method could not work. But let me speak more eloquently. The dead knows nothing and once a man dies, he remains there until Christ return. The believe that man goes to Heaven is a pagan believe that was taken into the church by the Catholic Church. We are God's creation and we have no right to kill ourselves or take another life. Any statement contrary to this is not biblical. So, sadly those who believe their love ones are in heaven are sadly wrong.

It's a shame some people don't understand this video or are hating on it and Damian. "We give thanks for what we have because people before us worked hard for us to be able to live how we're living" Pretty much sums this video up. Also, "I'm very comfortable telling people I grew up here, I think everyone wants their kids to grow up in an environment like this, why wouldn't you?" when talking about being raised uptown. he's showing his gratitude that because of the hard work of others he was able to be "Uptown Jamaica born and raised" He doesn't say he (Damian) grew up in the ghetto, he's talking about Bob growing up in the ghetto, putting in hard work and therefore Damian was afforded the opportunity to grow up in uptown Jamaica - Stony Hill and so he's celebrating his fathers success and hard work .

"Work hard" and "give thanks" to exploit the resources, people and land of Africa so they can "enjoy"?!! this is a failure to the ancestors... its a shame these people dont understand that they are partying only through the privilege of slavery and exploitation of people and resources... "give thanks" lol! People want to make a change? "work hard" to bring an end to the genocide in the Congo, conflict minerals, neo colonialism, so we can have our smart phones and nuclear power, and stop enjoying while injustice is going on! Nyabinghi!! FIRE pon this FAKE RASTA!

I was so lucky and blessed to see Bob when he came to England many years ago, it was amazing. We all stood up and danced in the aisles, and sang along to all the songs. Now all his Children and Grandchildren have picked up the baton, to carry on the legacy. What a song! Whilst I grew up in Scotland and so can't complain to have had life that hard, this song really speaks to me. I grew up in a working class household, and my Granny, Great-Granny and Great-Great-Granny were all single mothers. It's through their hard work that I've been able to achieve what I've achieved through life. We should never forget those who came before us who sacrificed so much.

this looks humble to you ? :D This is opposite everything he was singing about before. Pretty shameful. Its like he threw the monk robes and revealed his end game. I am very disappointed. I also wonder why are they all dressed in WHITE. The "oppressive" color. It's like the brothers getting a white woman when they make it. Sigh...

Right... I dare you to find me a Marley song about the white man struggle :) . Also, that was not the main point. Compare this clip to the "Speak Life" video. See the contrast, Timmy ? I enjoy his music as much as anyone, that doesn't mean I'm a fanatic and doesn't make him infallible. Your outrage is out of place, acolyte.

Larry Lucid I had an issue with the directive of the video. The white signifying wealth which is far from the truth . But I understood the song . Gong wasn’t so much interested in the video it appears . But then again he is just as white as he is black . So the thoughts is mixed .No pun intended

On a lyrical scale only one person even comes close to his profound skill...... Of pure 21st century poetry, dare I say, Marshall Bruce Mathers III......? Strip it all back to just a story telling level that I think all music should be about. All this modern day BS from likes of drake, ari etc is pure money making drival. The marley gang will make more of this song, in all aspects of life, then most of us will our lifetimes. The fact that people are even here commenting, good or bad, proves the untarnished legacy of the marleys will surely live on and on...... Ps to all real miss Mrs Mr Ms and Master marleys thankyou so very much for the happiness your DNA has bought me and my family I hope you leave a new generation of musical genius for my grand children to hopefully love and enjoy as much as my family do now much love
