This video helped me A LOT! I snagged a GoFoil Maliko 200 with a Pyzel board. It has RIDICULOUS lift which makes it easy to get up. The board has plenty of volume to paddle into small mushy waves or white water. The mast isn't too long which has been good even during low tide. Just wish I'd snagged a SUP so I could use my wing. With all this advice, I've picked up foiling in a couple weeks with a broken foot, and stood up for the first time yesterday. Awesome content!

Great intro Damien. Been designing and building foils and starting to wing foil from late last year. I know they aren't by any means main stream but some time you might want to touch on monofoiling, pros and cons and how sweep back works to stabilise. Also tapering chord from fat at centre to narrow at tips, compromise between lift and efficiency but with better roll response than for parallel leading and trailing edge outlines.

Damien Love your wing videos, I am ex windsurfer mostly racing and also raced a 2 man board with 2 sails curently kite surfing and trying to kite foiling but failing badly, so as the nearest water sports shop and beach is over 100 miles away it is difficult to get to try any wings before buying have watched most if not all your wing videos but when you did the video on foot straps yo made no mention as how tight we should make them on my kite foil board the straps are very loose
@DamienLeroyYouTube
@DamienLeroyYouTube 2 жыл бұрын
Martyn, Its all personal preference really and thanks for the kind words! If I was racing I would make the straps snug 100%. If I was doing tricks on the wing snug. All the same like windsurfing in my opinion. That is just me. Everyone might be different. Learning its tricky as the foil can put you in some crazy positions maybe a little looser, or some just have one front foot strap, no back. The foil learning process is hard no matter what you do friend.

Great information, but it would be very useful to me if you could just pick one sport and focus the video on that. I want to get into wing foiling, but need something that I can start out with. Your video was very informative, but I still have no idea what I will need to get started. I also see that the mast lengths are different. I need one setup that both me and my wife can start out with. Any ideas? It would be great if there was a beginner package out there. I have been windsurfing for almost 35 years. Where do I start in this new sport?
@DamienLeroyYouTube
@DamienLeroyYouTube 3 жыл бұрын
Robert, I would go with a mast size around 28' or 80cm long is perfect for learning a foil wing around 2000 or 250-300. Board around 5 to 6 feet and 100-130L in volume. A 5m wing could be a good size for both you and your wife. My thoughts.... Have a great day!

Thanks Damien, your videos are great! My 15 year old son wants to start Wing foiling and I have a few questions. I’m told that we could start on my windfoil (135l with Slingshot 1500cm wing). You’re video really helped but I’m still struggling with what would be the ideal next step. We mostly sail on a lake with light wind in the summer. Your advice on board size and foil size and profile would be greatly appreciated!
@DamienLeroyYouTube
@DamienLeroyYouTube 2 жыл бұрын
Volume sounds fine on the board. A larger wing with the lighter winds, maybe 6m would be ideal as you say light winds. Foil not 100% sure on. I would say new versions of foils are the way to go as the advancements have been massive! 1500 sounds like it is large enough but if its a really old version it might not be ideal.

OMG... It helps so much. Thank you so much. I am an advance windsurfer and intermediate kite surfer.. I am 76 kg and 175 cm... For light wind and flat water with 125 - 140 liter board, what size foils (front & back), do you recommend?
@DamienLeroyYouTube
@DamienLeroyYouTube 2 жыл бұрын
I would say the foil could be 1950 - 2100 or 300 range will be great for learning at a slow speed, light winds. If you are in a high wind area maybe go with a 1600-1800. Go with the bigger back wing for whatever company you choose, as that will give you the most stability. The smaller is just more twitchy...... You can find some options of foils we recommend, link in our description. Hope this helps.

Hello Damien. A friend who foils and twin tips (16th St Pompano) convinced me to get FLYSURFER soul for all my kiting needs. I just started to learn foiling and wanted to know your opinion on which size Soul I should get. I'm 6'2" and 215 pounds and my friend says he doesn't bother foiling when it blows over 20 MPH which makes sense to me. So I suppose I'm looking for ideal size for 10-19 MPH winds on a "medium" sized wing which I assume is best for someone starting out and can progress into....Any suggestion? Thank you!
@DamienLeroyYouTube
@DamienLeroyYouTube 3 жыл бұрын
I am not totally up to speed on the Soul from Flysurfer but I would say 10m - 15m depending on your ability... 15m would be my goto if you are an average rider for light winds but if you are very skilled you can go all the way down to a 10m as when you dive it it will have power. It's a tough questions..... As many are foiling in 10mph on 7m and 9m sizes all the way up to 15m and bigger....

Excelente video! Thank you very much, Damian. Can a bigger wing compensate a small foil front wing? For example, I have a Duotone Echo 5m, a 1500 F-one gravity, my weight is 210 pounds and in 14knots I pump like hell and I`m not getting any lift. I was wondering if a 7m would fix the problem in low winds or I also have to get a bigger front wing.
@DamienLeroyYouTube
@DamienLeroyYouTube 3 жыл бұрын
Yep a 7m X2 will help a ton but also a 2000plus foil would help a ton as well. One or another will help but would really help to have bigger wings and foils to ride in lighter winds. A bigger foil would be my first choice....

Hey Damien, I have been surfing the Varial Large in Jupiter for the past months but I’m looking to eventually upgrade to a full carbon foil. I’m 205 pounds and looking for a foil that will be more efficient to pump with so that I can pump back out easier and link waves. I have been looking at the Lift 200 and 250 surf and the Lift 200 and 250 high aspect setups. I’m just unsure of what size to get for my weight. I also still want to be able to turn relatively easily and not feel like I’m locked into a straight line.
@DamienLeroyYouTube
@DamienLeroyYouTube 3 жыл бұрын
Well you have two options. You can not go wrong with the HA foils in my eyes that's all I use now in the surf love them and easy to pump back out. 200HA LIFT it is great top seller! Saying that you are a bigger guy, the 250HA will just be a little slower super easy to use and crazy easy to pump lots of lift.... All the HA wings turn for sure just different more drawn out turns. I would lean towards the 250 so you have endless rids as you are 205.....

@@DamienLeroyKZbin in same situation, trying to decide between 200HA and 250HA, for 175lbs rider and wanting to use for Winging and behind the boat. Is there any drawback to either one? Thank you for all the awesome feedback!
@DamienLeroyYouTube
@DamienLeroyYouTube 3 жыл бұрын
@@jpholmes503 well the 200HA is an incredible wing for most everything and great behind the Boat the 250 will work fine as well a little slower, lots of LIFT, turn a little slower. The 250HA will be a ton better for winging as you need easy pop up and we just made a 300HA. I would recommend that for learning the wing. Then have the 200HA for fun. As you get better the 200HA will work fine but when leaning how to wing the 200HA will be a little harder as it will take more wind and will be a little harder to get up as you have to go faster and is not quite as LIFTY as the 250 or 300HA. Hope that helps friend..... Hard to have one wing that does it all... If you were to pick one the 200HA is a good one....

Hi Damien, I recently bought the Lift 5’0 eFoil, and now looking to sell and get the new 4’2 E3. (You let me try your 4’4” in Miami a few months ago 😅). Thank you. I’m researching now to get into wing surf foiling. Wondering if I can learn with the Lift 200 classic that I already have from the eFoil, or I might as well get the 250 HA? For the board- the Lift Wing Foil board 4’4” or 4’8”? I’d rather go smaller even though learning will take longer. I thought that I should stick with Lift since I already have the E foil right? Although I love Cabrinha and have a full quiver of kites - great quality also! Any advice is greatly appreciated. Also, can I buy through you to help you out? Thanks for everything! Glyn

Friend, So happy to hear from you! I would recommend 100% the 250HA for the learning wing foil, and the process it will help a ton in the lighter winds! The 200 Classic will work if the winds are a lot stronger but it for sure will take a lot longer to learn it to get it up on foil. As for the board the easiest to learn on is the LIFT 5'2 but you may be able to get away with the 4'8 but you will have to be knee starting, "harder" then get up on your feet and rock! The 5'2 you would be able to stand on and always be able to try and get up in the lightest of winds! I love the 4'8 but I weigh 155 pounds. The 4'4 would only work well when you are better and its windier.... Hope that helps.... kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6GVioZvgs-FaKs
