YT recommended a video and now i am hooked on watching how your boat renovation is going. You are doing really solid work and you guys seem to have a great dynamic between you three. Though there is something that is pushing that tiny brain of mine. I have now heard you say a couple of times "I am building a boat" and in this episode you stated that to prevent broken fingers, one shouldnt build a boat.. but you arent building a boat my friends. You are renovating an already built boat and doing a very lovely job at it. Just keep it real ok ;-)

Since subscribing to your channel I've been jumping around watching you get after different projects. I'm honestly blown away with your attention to detail. I consider myself a very handy and detailed driven, you have me easily beat. Everything you've done to your boat is Just Beautiful. Anyone would be very proud to own your catamaran. I'm seeing more and more sailors recommending the installation of a second diesel filter on a bypass valve as a stand by where changing or cleaning filters is not practical. The idea is for added safety especially if your'e caught in rough seas, in a shipping lane or in a critical manoeuvre such as windy docking etc. where an engine shut down would pose a serious safety concern to your boat or surrounding traffic. I'm the furthest thing from a sailor but I do appreciate your top notch workmanship...very impressive. Thought I would throw that out to you since you're so detailed oriented. Cheers, N

The sound insulation I used is a vinyl foam barrier composite made by Soundtec. I misspoke in the video saying it had a lead core in fact it's an ultra dense lead-like core made from vinyl. I hope your dominant hand was your left to keep on working, if not it quickly will be. :) Any concerns with the battery temperature being next to the exhaust lifter? How hot does that get, especially if you have a raw water blockage? From memory wet lead-acid typically don't like being charged over 45C.
@OnboardLifestyle6 жыл бұрын
I will be installing heat barrier wraps and placed the battery in that position because directly above is a 4" forced air intake that will give additional cooling. If temperature becomes an issue I will move the batteries out of the engine compartment entirely.

So was the finger set off camera or just didn't bother? Anyway for anybody watching that is accident prone or clumsy or doesn't know how to work with tools and is afraid of doing the same thing here just hold the drill upside down. Yup, that easy. Hold it so the handle is up so if it grabs and kicks it will pull out of your hand rather than twist and either smash your hand (like this guy) or sprain your wrist. If your drill came with that extra side handle that either clamps around the nose or screws into the side use it, it gives far better stability and is for this exact thing. A hole hog and every 1/2" drill I have ever seen comes with a side handle.
@bayanicustodio39986 жыл бұрын
Just wanted to ask, when you were installing port lights, I noticed you never use potting compound around the holes to protect the core material. Something that was done but not shown or the core material did not need it?
@OnboardLifestyle6 жыл бұрын
When we removed the 25 year old leaking portlight and inspected the exposed core ( NidaCore) and found zero degradation I was not to worried about the core material from here on out. NidaCore is impervious to moisture and, if breached, will isolate it to just the damaged cell. The new Bomar Flagship portlights we installed do not have fasteners that penetrate the hull but clamshell with a gasket around the opening. These portlights have been in now for over 7 months and I could not be happier with their performance. With all that said, We will be removing the portlights early next year for the last coat of paint and will make the decision at that point if we need to take those additional steps.

Always wear gloves, leather, with a hole hog. I also try not to grip it as I would normally. This way it will fly out of your hands and you can’t grip tightly . Also many have an option for a side handle and not just the pistol grip. I’ve bent and auger almost 90 degrees . Once I was using someone’s old drill motor and the whole handle snapped off and I was holding the handles with two wires sticking out and the motor body spinning for a couple seconds. He was not amused.

Goldenrod electric air warmer. They come in four models from 12w to 38w and are designed for this type of application. Go to the doctor m8,...they'll set it right and prevent your bone or surrounding tissue from getting infected. Sleep with your hand above the hight of your hart on your chest, it helps with recovery and keeps the pounding pain to a minimum,....but go to the doctor to get it X-rayed and set. Take 2× Paracetamol 500mg, it prevents inflammation and is a pain suppressor, you can have those every 4 hours, but again, go see a doctor.

Did you let it bleed for a bit ? (when it just happend)
@OnboardLifestyle6 жыл бұрын
Yes, it bled for about 2 hours. Believe it or not, it wasn't the drill that caused the laceration. When the drill spun out, my hand was whipped onto a sharp edge, that was what caused the fracture and the laceration. And yes, I did have a tetanus shot last year because I know you were going to ask that next.
@thatdutchguy28826 жыл бұрын
Onboard Lifestyle Hahahaha 👍😆-up on the tetanus injection. Just keep an eye on it, it's normal if it turns a bit blue/very light greenish hew at the knuckles and joints in the immediate vicinity of the break and it wil swell, but if that swelling doesn't subside in a day or 5 you'll need to see a doctor. Take the 2 Paracetamol's 500mg, and be careful with that finger for now, keep it up as much as you can. (above the hart level) Great boat work btw, really enjoy the channel 👍,....go see a doctor ;).
