Out of almost all musicians from that era, this woman could say, "I was unlike anything else" and spend an hour talking about how great she was. Instead she spent her interview talking about how great everyone around her was. It was refreshing. When she did give herself credit, it seemed it was because she was proud of her contributions to the team, and even then, her teammates were still put on a pedestal while she deferred to their talents.

When Lady Gaga first hit the scene, lazy people compared her to Madonna because she was "outrageous" but I always compared her to Dale. Many people didn't know who I meant, but those who did or who later looked her up all agreed that Gaga was much more like Dale than Madonna. Dale was the trailblazer who doesn't always get the credit that she deserves. Thanks for this!

Today they now love Missing Persons! And many others from my time! But everytime I hear them in their bedroom playing Missing Persons or music from my time! I get a little warm little fuzzy in my heart! Never said I was right in my conclusion! Never told them they should believe what i believe, but I hear them playing music from my past more than GaGa! Guess it's like my parents, they loved Motown and so do I! We can only introduce our influences to our children! It's up to them to listen and find out for themselves!

This interview is NOT a Train Wreck, it is one of your BEST interviews ever! Dale Bozzio is so full of passion and sincerity. I can't believe they didn't have hits in the Top Ten, because "Words", "Destination Unknown" and "Windows" were played on the radio all the time. When I first met my wife, she had her hair styled like Dale, because she was a huge Missing Person's fan. I still hear her all the time when I listen to Frank Zappa albums like Joe's Garage.

I got to meet Dale a few years back in the parking lot of CVS. I recognized and approached her, and she was so warm and welcoming. We chatted for quite some time and she told me they still play huge 80s festivals in Europe. We hugged at the end and went our way. What a total sweetheart.

What a wild ride of an interview! Dale Bozzio has one of the most distinctive vocals of the 80s. I was surprised Words and my personal favorite Destination Unknown weren't chart toppers. I would definitely love to see this band live . This was 80s gold in my opinion, Dale is a great personality, enjoyed every minute of this episode.

Great interview! I appreciate that she gave so much credit to Warren Cuccurullo and Terry Bozzio. Cuccurullo basically revived Duran Duran after leaving Missing Persons. And I heard it said that one tour with Frank Zappa was equivalent to a Doctoral Level seminar in music theory. Those three geniuses--Zappa, Cuccurullo, and Bozzio, plus a ton of personality (and genius) in Dale Bozzio, made for some incredible music. Hard to believe it never charted, but then again, Zappa didn't chart either. Sometimes genius is not appreciated by the masses.

I agree with what you said, except for one small change, I don't believe Frank knew much theory, but a Doctoral Level in the music business, 100% It was that education that allowed Steve Vai the confidence to go his own route with the production and distribution of his solo works. Zappa didn't chart, but EVERYONE knew of him and so many gifted musicians played with him throughout his career.

If I remember the story correctly Steve Vai folded a piece up as a paper airplane and signed it. Zappa caught the airplane and unfolded it, went to the mic and asked him up onstage. "Trainwreck" is probably the last word I would use to describe this interview. I thought it honest, refreshing, a little grungy, but that was always her thing anyway. She was like a doll, but one who had a make-over by Sid Phillips. (the mean kid in Toy Story). I've always thought Ms. Bozzio was held back because she intimidated a huge slice of society-mainly because she was who she appeared to be and wasn't a pop starlet playing a role. Your interview really showed her musician side, allowed her freedom to share what was important to her. That is good journalism! I've watched a lot of your interviews and I always enjoy how you get people to break down the song. You pull out the middle school music nerds in them as they share how that formed or that chord came together or that downbeat hit. I've also noticed musicians share very personal tidbits in your interviews because they know how much you like those little bitty nuggets of information. It makes for a very good show. This interview had all of that regular stuff in it, but Ms. Bozzio has never fit into the parameters of anyone's expectations besides her own and brought a whole bunch more to the table. We listen to this woman's music because, when they recorded it, they captured a spark of life that comes through to the listener. Your interview does the same. Well done.

I was a huge, heavy rock, Rush, Aerosmith Rolling Stones fan in high school and then the police and missing persons and others hit KROQ and all my friends thought I was crazy but soon all my hard rock friends became huge police and missing person fans also We were blessed to have them and it gets overlooked but all of us in LA were so blessed to have KROQ!

KROQ makes LA. After I had moved from LA I visited for an emergency. I spent the whole time listening to KROQ. At the airport I heard the last part of a song that stuck in my head. Flew home, and the song stuck, but I'd only heard a little bit of it. I called KROQ's request line and the dude answering has me sing what I remember, then he says, "Hold on one second, DON'T HANG UP!" When he put me on hold. On hold you could hear the live broadcast of the station and suddenly the same voice I had been talking to is on the air (I was still confused and thought he was talking over the radio station in the background?" and the voice on the radio says, "This is for our listener up in Oregon"-who misses KROQ something fierce. (not in quotes because I can't remember exactly what they said for the last part). "Laid, by James," and up starts the song. OMG... I sat on hold at my work desk, trying to look like I was working, while I listened to Laid. What a nice thing to do-I've always appreciated what that DJ did AND I still love that song and KROQ. I hope it is still good!

True story - I saw Aerosmith in December of 1982. At that time, *most* Aerosmith fans weren't particularly fond of new wave music. Before the concert started, the venue was playing music on the PA. Being an Aerosmith show, the PA was playing AC/DC, Led Zep, and the like. Out of nowhere, "Destination Unknown" started. With the opening keyboard riff, there was a collective roar (of approval) from the crowd. Pretty impressive, for a hard rock crowd to be that into a "New Wave" song. Great interview, Professor!

From the time I heard Mental Hopscotch on the radio, I was hooked. I remember having my tape recorder cued up waiting to record the song off KROQ. I bought the Spring Session M cassette soon after its release and practically wore it out. I have so many great memories of the 80's and MP was a big part of it. This is my favorite Interview that you have done. After Dale's explanation of how "Destination Unknown" came about, I now have a new appreciation for the song. I've always been intrigued by Dale B. Such a cool interview. One of my favorite jams of hers is Simon Simon, her collab with Prince in 1988. I really wished you could have touched on that!

I was planning to just take a quick look and come back to it later... here I am, all the way through it. She pulls you in with her enthusiasm. This is a person who lives her life and loves her life, the good and the bad are just part of that journey. I wish more people could interview as well as you. You let them say what they want or need to say, you don't try to keep them on a script or cut them short to make sure you get everything you want to say or ask in. You help them tell us their story without taking over the story so we get to hear those stories as the artist wants them to be heard.

I remember these songs (hits). Always thought of them as bubble gum rock with the squeaks, but Dale is well versed and has lived life. The 80s were wrought with changing music styles, videos, and competition. Great interview, Thanks Adam!

2:05 I had the same thought Professor! Lady Gaga even looks a bit like Dale? My mom & uncle introduced me to FZ at age 4. Ive got an old pic of us with my uncle holding up Overnight Sensation. When Missing Persons came out, i remember mom saying how sharp & tough looking Dale is. She grew up in Detroit...tough = cool 👍 "You are what you is" lol I heard that a lot growing up Missing Persons is so good! Thank you Professor for reminding me once again! This definitely was a train wreck interview but Dale Bozzio was quite a sight especially on the MTV videos of Missing Persons plus her stage persona and the way she dressed was great especially for the 80's and nice to hear and watch the interview she still looks very nice until next time thanks again Professor.🎶🎶📻🎶🎶

Fantastic, I loved Missing Persons! I still play them in my regular rotation. Warren and Terry are musical geniuses and Dale was the perfect front way ahead of her time fashion wise and very talented. I can listen to “Destination Unknown” daily and never tire of it

I don't see anything train wreck about this. Dale has a big personality but she was absolutely on point throughout. "Words" is such a good song! I wish you could cover another One-Hit Wonder, with Aldo Nova's "Fantasy" in a future episode! I saw that same show at the Orange Pavilion. Long time ago but if I remember correctly Rough Cutt was the opening band. I remember when MP took the stage and had technical issues. Dales voice came over the PA and said in her Bwastin accent we’re trying to get the guitah to wurk.

I saw Dale several times when she started her comeback in 1999. I asked her about Frank Zappa and she told me a bunch of stories for 10-15 minutes. I also caught one show during the short lived band reunion in 2001. I remember talking to Warren Cuccurullo after that show. I was lucky enough to video record once of the shows in 99. It was great cause she did some songs from their forgotten second and third album.
