Carlos has always been a reminder me to be a good person. He's genuine and sincere in an industry that chews up and spits out too people when they are no longer profitable. Not the least bit surprised he gives royalties out of pocket to Otis Rush. That's who Carlos is as a person. Its all the more wonderful how much of an inspiring musician he is and has been for countless guitar players including myself. Black Magic Woman from Abraxis was one of the first songs I wanted to learn as a young kid playing guitar. A little older later on as teenagers we would take LSD and look at that album cover with all the finite details while listening to the LP (not encouraging drug use but if you know, you know its a great album to do just that). Awesome interview and my favorite part was Carlos fist bumping The Professor of Rock...very cool.

I’ve mentioned this before, so here I go again… My dad was always listening to one of his albums Sunday mornings. I loved most of it, I just couldn’t get into the Doors, but that’s another story. My dad was a HUGE Santana Fan! I remember staring at the cover art of my dad’s copy of Abraxas. I remember thinking that I really wanted to be at this beach party. LOL, I was 7. What did I know… I do love his songs, Say it Again has ALWAYS been a favorite. And Blues for Salvador (an instrumental) and Europa and my favorite instrumentals of his… The first time I had the opportunity to see Carlos Santana live, I could almost FEEL my dad standing next to me… My dad was my music MENTOR and he would be the first person to say that there is NO SUCH THING as a “bad Santana song”.

Most men who talk like this, you may do this too, but I dismiss them as potheads or hippies. Carlos Santana is the only person who talks about spirituality and commonality so freely and joyfully and I never dismissed as some young pup tripping on acid. He's genuine. He walks the walk. He puts it in his music, and it's not just some ethereal thing you kinda sorta feel; it's palpable, it's something you can sink your teeth into.

Being a guitar player for 45 years.I've always enjoyed and respected santana and his music. I've played in many cover bands and did many of his songs through the years. As a guitar player, I can tell you. It is easy to replicate his style if you practice enough. The key I found is this. You have to feel the music. With enough practice, anyone can play a Santana song. But if you don't feel it inside, you're just copying the notes and it will show. So when you play a Santana song or any song for that matter, try to get a feeling for it. I've been playing since I was 14 years old.And there are a ton of Guys who play better than me.... But I give it all. I have and pour my heart into it and try to come as close as I can.

Oh I love this interview man! Genuinely, I resonated so much with what he expressed and said. Carlos and Eric Clapton - THE two most impactful, influential and best guitarists around. Of course without prior artists to give their inspiration to them, they may not have found themselves on this same path, and seeing the same sound and success, but it isn't from those before them that we got them, it is from their own unique touch and styles, and their passion that gave birth to them and their unique sound. So yes, Chuck Berry in example may have been and still be considered one of the best guitarists of all time, and at one point, the cream of the crop, among many others, but Carlos and Eric are truly the best of the best all on their own.

I loved Santana from the first notes of Jingo I heard on the radio in '69. He was one of the reasons I played guitar. His playing always "speaks" in a way no one else's does.

Carlos is great. I remember his quote saying angels are flying around him while he plays. I may be a bit off on what he really said but something like that. ✌️✌️✌️❤️❤️❤️. Thanks Professor of Rock.

I have known for years that Black Magic Woman was originally a Fleetwood Mac song, but had no idea that it originally came from Otis Rush. But now that I hear that, I can see the connection. Thanks Professor!

Can’t originally be a “Fleetwood Mac Song” if it was clearly done FIRST by Otis 🎸 AND acknowledged by the guy from Mac… CLA$$Y of Carlos to pay it forward by paying it back…

Have been a fan of Carlos since the early 70s when we used one of his albums for a modern dance class. He is timeless being a favorite of many from Woodstock to present day. I could not get enough of 'Smooth' and that entire album (the Grammys that year were amazing). He is always so centered and genuine. A true American treasure.

What a coup! I've loved the sound of Santana since their eponymous album way back in the early 70s. I have several of the albums in my collection. Another great interview.

I grew up in the 60s and 70s. Santana was always being played in someone's car while we were cruising. You mentioned a resurgence when the album Supernatural was released. I was still listening to Santana when that "resurgence" hit.

My bad luck that the only Santana album we had when I was a kid was Caravanserai..I knew it was great music but jazz fusion was beyond my young ears to really latch onto and appreciate, it was a world beyond me and I didn't understand the language..but his guitar over the years, yeah, he's one of the best speakers out there !

One of my favorite bands! Third concert I ever attended was Santana in 1978. Opening acts were Sad Cafe (they had a remake of Highway Star) and Eddie Money. I was 16. I’ve seen Santana many times since then. Always a great show!

Great video! Santana is one of my favorite bands, and I would love to see more content on them. Especially the story of how the original lineup broke at the end of 1971 which led to the recording of Caravanserai in 1972, one of their best albums.
