See, I love Gorillaz I own all their CDs, some posters, some vinyl and some their DVDs. Saying that I can also safely say I do not think Goillaz when I think of this song. This is Damon Albarn, pure and simple. I think part of the original reason why Damon and Jaime didn't release who they were when they were touring for the Gorillaz CD was because they didn't want that music to define them. But now it has. I think of 2D as 2D and Damon as Damon. Completely different entities and completely different music. It must get really tiring being bugged about one facet of who you are constantly.
@rustyspoon86998 жыл бұрын
This comment is the best one, hands down.
@KellieLV6 жыл бұрын
Tbh my mind tends to seperate Damon from Gorillaz anyways. Like, he's still there, but not the focus. 2D and the characters are thr focus. So to me, 2D is a xompletely different entity than Damon, which was the intended purpose of Gorillaz anyways. I love Damonas an artist, but it kinda sucks that Gorillaz has kinda defined him when his personal stuff is more... Personal. It's more him. Gorillaz is a project that, yes he is a part of, but it isn't completely him. It's just kind of this persona im the way of these characters. So when Damon's personal music is so much different than Gorillaz, it's kind of unfair to label Damon as only "the guy from Gorillaz" when ALL of his music is brilliant, Gorillaz or otherwise.

In the recording studio, Damon sounds different compared to when he’s in a live performance. So in the context of Gorillaz, I like to think that it’s 2-D in the studio, while Damon goes out and does the live performances. It’s a fun thought to keep around

One of the things I love about Damon Albarn is that he's an outstanding lyricist. Most lyrics you hear on songs are pretty basic, and to the point, but Damon actually puts effort into his lyrics, he finds rhymes and metaphors that express the meaning of the lyric without it being so obvious, a lot of songwriters today, don't even do that. Hell, most lyrics you hear in songs today barley even rhyme or aren't grammatically correct. So, that's pretty much one out of many reasons why I love Damon Albarn and think he's a musical genius. I mean, for the love of god, why doesn't this guy have a Grammy??? OH, wait, I know why, because music with actual meaning to it isn't mainstream, it's all about "big asses, titties, doing drugs, and partying". Yeah, I forgot. That rubbish is becoming successful, while all the phenomenal artistic music is left in the crapper. The fact that remarkable artists like Damon Albarn aren't getting the popularity, and mainstream success that these disrespectful arseholes are getting seriously makes me cry. I love Damon Albarn, and all of his work, and he without a doubt needs more attention. I've never been more serious in my life.
@pedro_ray10 жыл бұрын
I agree one hundred percent with you. Not only Damon but a lot of others musicians usually don't get the credit they deserve by general population. This is the way it's always been. If it helps you, I use to think that Grammys, other prizes or midia fuss over something doesn't make it necessarily good, and true critics and listeners of good material will always be aware of the good things that are out there! And every now and then we'll find each other and share our opinions ;)
@AROMANNNNNN10 жыл бұрын
While I agree with pretty much everything you guys are saying, acting as if Damon's work gets no mainstream recognition is kinda crazy. Gorillaz guys...who hasn't listened to Gorillaz. If were talking about grammy's, they have been nominated a ton of times and I think have even won once. Feel Good Inc, everyone under 30 knows that song.

Honestly for this music video I imagine a little boy walking home from school, viewing the people playing and having a nice time. he arrives at home and the camera picks up on features on everyone apart from the protagonist. Something that makes them look robotic. he sits at the dinner table and his family work like clockwork. eventually this pans to the boy growing up and wanting to break free from this causing him to be 'rebellious' this is in vain however. as it skips to a now much older version of him (Damon) walking home and seeing the same types of things he did before. The protagonist arrives home, sits at the table and sets his briefcase down. his wife kisses him on the cheek and places his food down. he then turns to look at his son, who like him, looked disinterested and started to have a rebellious streak. he smiles warmly. The video ends.

just discovered this song - and album (oops - LOL!). Love these songs... Thank you, Damon. This is how I"ve been feeling about society the past few years. Every time I look around any mass transit. People "seem" so disconnected... I get it - and yet - I've taken to NOT being on my phone more and more - but just watching people in the dim blue lights of their devices. Eerie and occasionally very sad. Not that I don't ever partake... but often when I'm on mine, I'm either making audio recordings ... or drum machine patterns using samples of said recordings.. Ironically...? :-P Cheers and Best from NYC... as we sink deeper into the mire of sickness.

Lyrics: 'They didn’t know where they was going, but they knew where they was wasn’t it' We are everyday robots on our phones In the process of getting home Looking like standing stones Out there on our own We’re everyday robots in control Or in the process of being sold Driving in adjacent cars ‘Til you press restart Everyday robots just touch thumbs Swimmin’ in lingo they become Stricken in a status sea One more vacancy For everyday robots getting old When our lips are cold Lookin’ like standing stones Out there on our own Little robots in ringback tones In the process of getting home

True art. Damon Albarn deserves a Nobel Prize

My phone was generous enough to restore past songs I forgot about. I’m probably most thankful for this one. I really try not to compare, especially with how original this truly is in ways. But I can’t help but think of The Postal Service if they touched on a more vulnerable and dark side with this. That ongoing string sample is incredibly impactful, and kind of sad. What a song.

***** Not sure that would ever happen, unfortunately. Damon has expressed his indifference to Thom's work on multiple occasions.

For me it sounded similar to "Hong Kong" by Gorillaz, but yeah... Out of Time fits too :) He's a genius anyway.

PsYkedelick didnt know that gorillaz song, thank you.. yes, gorillaz is gorillaz. this is something else, and it's magnificent.

It's on D-sides, the b-sides album that came out after Demon Days. :) Not a lot of people know of this one because it's more of a bonus album, but it's packed with good stuff !

yeah, i just realized that... pretty cool. excited to listen to the rest of this album too :)

Can people stop comparing this album/song to Gorillaz. They don't sound alike. Damon Albarn did a damn good job on differentiating the two.

Damon is up there in the strange and unusual artists we don't deserve in this world for they are too precious. Bjork, Thom York, Steve Roach, and many few are among them.

This song is so Melancholic and I like that makes me feel happy/sad inside. I hope there is more like this to come.
