Zoe Reiter The Gorillaz was a virtual band (the cartoons), but the band itself was the brainchild of Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, an English comic book artist and designer. He is known for being the co-creator of the comic Tank Girl. There was some problem between them that they apparently sorted out, but when it comes to performance, it's Albarn that does the Gorillaz numbers on stage. I'm pretty sure he did the music, whereas Hewlett did the cartoons and graphics. The rest of the band has been fluid. Albarn is an awesome musician.
