Same!! Cause his love for Elena has been known from the start and it’s basically a part of him, and starts off as something selfish. But I just LOVE his love for Bonnie. This is the difference between Damon and Stefan. Stefan respected her choice, it was a good thing, he was a good boyfriend but sometimes he just respected her choice a little too much, it kinda looked like he prioritized Elena's feeling over her safety. But Damon, his priority was Elena's safety, he will do anything as long as Elena was safe and alive, even though she will hate him for it. There's nothing wrong with Stefan's way of loving her but I prefer Damon's way ^^

Sometimes, your choice doesn't matter when it's going to get you killed. Sometimes, there has to be someone willing to hurt your feelings and say no, I won't let you do this. Someone who looks out for you while you're too busy looking out for everyone else. Elena is reckless, and Stefan encourages that; Damon is the one who stands and goes nope, not letting it happen. That's a huge difference.

What I realized watching TVD this time around; I believe this is my third watch through - is that I think what ultimately made Damon fall in love with Elena over time, ironically, was that he could intimately relate to Elena, a human being who fell in love with a vampire and wanted to do everything in her minimal power to protect him, including sacrifice herself. This is who Damon was to Katherine, through and through. I had never made this connection before. Damon was innocent and loving, obstinate and well-meaning yet incredibly naive at times, just like Elena was at the start of the show. She reminds him of who he used to be and what it meant to be human.

Whereas pragmatic Damon doesn't mind being a bad guy and get his hands dirty because "someone has to do that job".

I love how in the scene when damon is trying to explain that she can't go in the house is the first hint in the show that damon is really starting to care about her. That's why I love damon, everyone focuses on the bad things he does, but he's a very sensitive person when it comes to getting his feelings hurt. See….I can understand why people feel like things like this are toxic. And he shouldn’t grab her. HOWEVER, it’s a fantasy setting and when you’re in a dire situation you have to make choices to protect people. I haven’t seen most of this show yet, but I think it’s really sweet. And a lot of times it seems he’s just desperate to protect her and control situations so they don’t get out of hand. It makes perfect sense and is sweet. I personally don’t think someone has to “consent” to being protected.
