Still one of my favorite Damon/Elena episodes of all time. There's so much protectiveness and passion here, and her feelings for him are exposed but unannounced, and you can just see that Stefan (and Katherine) already knows where this is headed. Damon has always been the right person, the strongest, the best person for her, because he's never been afraid to stand up to Elena and put her in her place. As he's said, he'll do whatever it takes to keep her safe, even if it did mean breaking her arm. I LOVE how he always stands in front of her like that, with Elijah, when Klaus comes into the bar, with Stefan. So protective and sexy. And I love how he says, "I will break. your. arm." Affirmative, Damon. We know damn well you mean it! And so did Elena.

To put it simply: Elena brings out the best in him. Do I believe Damon would EVER choose to hurt Elena? No! Back in season 1: when he went insane and had Elena drink his blood after he threatened to kill her...I refuse to believe he would hurt her...even after he told Stefan he would! Stefan called him on it. After he gain his sanity back (because of Stefan giving him the Grimoire) he kissed her hair and touched her as if she was a precious gift! In actuality, he turns his emotions back on because of her. In this season, I don't believe he would have broken her arm. Sure he threatened her but that was to show her how protective he is of her and how determined to keep her safe...to stop her from doing something stupid!
