He's not exactly just "the next guy up". They've had tremendous success with him. From the beginning of training camp, this year was cursed. They had a huge talent drain on both sides of the ball, not to mention questionable management decisions. Changing QB's after the year they had would be a panic move. Purdy doesn't have a big market. I narrowed it down to four teams.. Carolina, New Orleans, Tennessee and the 49ers. Vegas and NYG will draft cheaper younger quarterbacks. He can't play in any inclement weather (that eliminates 3/4 of the teams in the NFL) and he can't throw the ball down the field. Brock is a good quarterback but he's a product of the Avengers. Larry Kreuger is a buffoon! See what the real problem is the 49er's management wanted to see how good Brock Purdy is with a mediocre supporting cast offensively. This season proves Brock needs top talent around him. Brock is not talented enough to carry this team on his back. The 49ers can't afford to pay Brock a top salary and surround him with top talent. The big problem with Kreuger's analysis is he strictly goes by what looks good on paper he doesn't consider the intangibles that a player brings to a team on the other hand Damon factors in the intangibles along with what looks good on paper. Let's make a brief evaluation of the offensive talent surrounding Brock Purdy. 1. Offensive line leaks, it rarely dominates the line of scrimmage. 2. CMC when healthy is one of the best backs in the NFL. His durability has to be questioned. When healthy does Shanahan over use him to the extent that he under uses his other backs. 3. TE, besides Kittle the Niners do not have an adequate replacement. 4. WR's they have no speedsters that can extend the defense vertically. Even when Ayuik was healthy he didn't possess the speed to extend the defense vertically. With his ACL injury he maybe even slower than he was before. 5. This maybe the most important question. Is Kyle Shanahan a "players coach." We all know his pedigree. An argument can be made that his father a good X's & O's coach that could manage a team with good talent but was not a "players coach." Remember when Mike Shanahan was head coach of the Washington Redskins and how he mis-handled (QB) RGIII. In my opinion the San Francisco 49ers under Kyle Shanahan has been a team of overachievers. They are now at the point where "the rubber meets the road". What this means is do they now go after top talent and retain it. Yes, this will be expensive!

Purdy is not a top tier QB . He is not an elite QB that deserves 60plus million . He is in the second tier and should command somewhere in the range of 54 to 58 million . I would concentrate on building an offensive line to protect their investment. Still would get a backup QB to push him to the next level if that’s possible . He needs to make better judgements and decisions as he has become more prone to throw INT’s by forcing the ball into coverages . Realistically he doesn’t possess a cannon for an arm . I would be very cautious about giving Brock money at the top. I don't want to be at the Dallas Cowboys or Miami Cincinnati Bengals with a highly paid QB and a losing team. In fact, I think this year might be a preview of what's the come if we give Brock top five money.

If we pay Purdy, we are doomed for mediocrity for his entire contract. We’ve been able to build a super team because he’s paid 1m. Even if we paid Brock $40m, that takes away two Avengers and we’ve seen how he is with even 1 good player gone.

He’s not better but….he’s been to the Super Bowl and he’s setting NFL records even though he’s had a bad year. Who in your list matches what he has done? I would suggest the majority of Purdy’s problems manifested with his #1 & 2 receivers were extremely bad this year. Defenses weren’t even putting Deebo in double coverage. Honestly I would love to see Purdy in Dallas or Carolina. Then we would see.

To repeat, it’s a four year deal. That fourth year isn’t fake. There’s no asterisk on it. It’s real. Both sides must honor it. If one side doesn’t like it, they shouldn’t have signed it. That’s how contracts work. I don’t give a mother fuck about unwritten rules. For either side. The 49ers should be that organization that says no, we aren’t going to continue this bullshit. We offered him a four year deal, he agreed to it and signed it. Furthermore, if the brass still isn’t sure after that, franchise him. The 49ers would have a better chance at a title next year with Aaron Rodgers. Go in that direction.
