This clip is quite illustrative of Rabbi Moster ‘s content and style. It is clear, organized and informative. Look for his Hebrew classes at Biblical Culture. Among the best available.

This was presented professionally. Well done. I hope instructors refer their students to this video as a brief intro to the Apparatus.

Hello, David. I am looking for a Bible with the hebrew to study it, and I would like to ask you about the differences between Quinta and Stutgartensia (2015). Thanks for your videos. Rodrigo

I cannot find the meaning of "bacal" - I hope it's not related to "cod"! Any learned helper(s) out there, and/or any translator(s) of the sentence?

What is the main advatage of quinta vis the current all in onze BHS?
@BiblicalCulture
@BiblicalCulture 2 жыл бұрын
Both have pros and cons. Quinta has all the Dead Sea Scrolls, a more detailed apparatus, and two types of notes in the back. BHS is one volume and provides a great deal of information in much less space. Hope this helps.
@spykezspykez7001
@spykezspykez7001 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, that helps. I think I may just buy the BHS and apparatus anyway - I don’t know when the whole five will come out in one volume, *do you happen to know* ? Having all those separate volumes is just a little unappealing and I’m hardly on the bleeding edge of scholarship by any stretch of imagination. Thank you :)

Yes because we need a Latin name for a new edition of a Hebrew book to replace the old German/Latin name. One of the things that has always bugged me about the entire BH series is that we can't just stick to modern languages, Hebrew, and appropriate snippets from the source docs. It is like they are trying hard to make it inaccessible. IMHO everything not Hebrew should be transliterated and translated (BHQ has moved closer to this but BHS was awful) and I am glad to see all the Latin abbreviations dropped, as well as a lot of the weird siglia.

Why do you want Greek to explain Hebrew??
@BiblicalCulture
@BiblicalCulture Жыл бұрын
The Greek is a “witness” to the Hebrew text it copied 2000+ years ago. It preserves variant readings compared to the Hebrew text passed down alongside it. As it turns out, many of the Greek variants can be found in the Dead Sea Scrolls, confirming their antiquity.
@RudydeGroot

@@BiblicalCulture thank you for answering. But the dead sea scrolls are known to have been written by the Essenes, celibate cave dwellers and a sect of Judaism. If Greek has similarities with what's on the dead sea scrolls then you could argue that the Greek was copied from the Essenes library instead of the genuine Hebrew texts.
@garlandjones7709
@garlandjones7709 4 ай бұрын
@@RudydeGrootit's not "known" that all of the manuscripts are from the essenes. Also, you would not have to assume the LXX translated from the dead Sea scrolls. Not only is that 70 miles from Jerusalem, it doesn't account for thousands of matching variants in Samaritan, or when the DSS agree with the Masoretic against the LXX. The answer given was a good one.

Having recently had my 75th birthday, I had thought to be done with teaching etc.; but I have just been asked whether I would consider taking some students through a book or two of the Hebrew Old Testament/Tanakh and of the “Septuagint”/Old Greek.[These are students (and there is a growing number of them in the UK ) who have decided not to incur heavy student debt by going to institutions and then having to minister in lukewarm/apostate denominations.] Ruth has been suggested for beginners, and Obadiah for intermediaries. So, I have decided to purchase the BHQuinta Megilloth and The Twelve Minor Prophets! I have usually introduced students to a small historical number of Hebrew editions. I have also been asked to give a presentation on Hebrew Bible editions. I have, on my shelf (and in mind), Bomberg’s 2nd (Letteris’ edition), Bomberg/Ginsburg (Trinitarian Bible Society’ edition), BHKittel, and BHStuttgartesia : should I add one or two more? For the Greek, I use Rahlfs-Hanhart. I have away given away most, but kept a few, copies of these editions. Once the two BHQ volumes have arrived, and I have had the opportunity to peruse them, I should like to discuss them, if possible. Do you prefer discussion here or elsewhere?

If the fascicles had been issued in A4 size, the proper desk/study size, then each fascicles could have been rationally designed, and more information included, and abbreviations dispensed with. And why not issued in interleaved or loose leaf format? Portable editions need to be small; study editions need to be large.
